ABSOLUTELY!! In school around here, kids only have P.E. 2-3 times a week! I think that is atrocious! There must be something they can do to keep the academics, and increase physical activity. In High School here, P.E. is not even mandatory....it was when I was in school!! I have 2 older kids that took many P.E. classes---they offer weight training class, life sports class(where you just get together and play ball, volleyball, hockey, football, basketball, and just go for runs and walks, and so on). Out of my younger 2, 1 will take as much P.E. as he can and the other will take minimun amount!
However, PARENTS/CAREGIVERS also need to take back control of their kids....be the parent! Take away/limit video games, computer time(or what they can do on the computer) no games...just research, learning, and talking to far away friends, and shut off that darn t.v.!!!!! Go outside and play with your kids...it is so much fun to go out after it snows around here and build forts, tunnels, and snowmen with my kids, we have great quality/family time!!

Or parents could just get rid of the video games and let kids stay in shape the old fashion way. You know, playing....outside.....

Yeah for sure ,the kids of todays society are so lazy and everything is computer games and junk food ,in my primary school years and highschool years I was always playing footy or soccer at recess and lunch and PE was P.E not the crap they do now which is jack all ...

Definetely need something done about it to many obese kids around ...

Its a start. Schools should do more to educate and encourage healthy active lifestyles, but its all smoke in the wind if the parents don't also participate in encouraging a healthy active lifestyle.

just join a gym and go there after school

In modern day living in concrete jungle there is no space for children to play so if schools can provide more time for exercise I think it is a good idea.

It's a good start, but it's not the be all and end all of the problem.

Schools should play a part in the health of kids as they're there for a good portion of the day. But this does not absolve the parents from their responsibilities either. They too need to make sure their kids are healthy and active.
