Does going to the gym shorten your flexibility?!

Question: I've started gym for a couple of days and I cannot stretch my legs the way I did before because it hurt. Is it because I'm still not used to the way I do my exercises or is it really just like that?

You committed the #1 weight training beginner error. You started working out too hard. You've broken your muscles down and now your body is trying to repair itself. Most of us have done the same thing.

Take a couple of days off doing any leg workouts and when you do workout again, start slowly. From scratch you should take about 3 weeks to really start working out hard.

Also, as people have suggested, stretch daily, and before and after working out. Remember to NEVER stretch a "cold" muscle. Always do a warm up before stretching. There is no reason you have to lose any flexibility while training with weights.

You have to stretch before and after you work out to keep your flexibility.

If it's your first time working out in a while then maybe it will temporarilly but that's just because your body is in pain. Keep stretching through the pain and eventually it won't hurt as much and you'll most likely increase your range of motion.

Maybe you didnt warm up before or warm down.I usually experience things like that and it's kinda normal, just make sure you do your warm up's and down's and you might be fine.^^

You should be doing stretches before (and even after) exercising. You may be sore from the new workouts so your muscles are resistant due to pain or swelling.

You have to stretch before and after you work out. This will help with the muscle soreness and the flexibility. Your muscles are tight right now so that is what causes the reduced flexibility. Once your muscles relax you should be back to normal. But always remember to stretch, otherwise you can injure yourself. I know. I never used to stretch and I ended up over training a muscle in my butt which was very unpleasant!!!

You should incorporate a stretching routine in your daily schedule and not just on days you workout.

Stretching is very important as it decreases the chance of injury and helps muscles recover faster after workouts.

I would suggest you stretch before, and after

If you feel any stiffness during your workout, stretch that area as well.

Good Job ! I hope you will love it, cause I love gym so I am happy that you will be enjoy it very well.
Just do it , the happiness waiting for you :)

What a silly question, you have a lactic acid build-up in your muscles, which are now also torn and need to recover. Until they do so, you will be stiff and unable to stretch to your full range of flexibility

probably because of the stress and the strain, you will get used to it.
