Scales? How do you know it's accurate?!

Question: Hi,
I always get confused by the different weights you get when you weigh on your own scale, doctors scale, gym scale.... here's the deal. They tell you to do the 10 pound sugar test and when I put the bag on my scales it weighs 10 pounds. Why would my scale be off? If I weigh differently at the doctors but my scale is still weighing the 10 pounds correctly then what's the deal? Thanks everybody:) Happy Holidays

The doctors scale use used hundreds of time a week in a busy office. Doublly so at the gym. Its only accuracy is comapring to the last time you were weighed on that scale. If you believe the one at home is accurate, continue to use it. There is a lot more to being healthy then the number on the scale, so try not to obsess over it, it just causes you stress, which won't help if you are trying to lose weight. There are so many numbers that matter more, like your cholesterol and blood pressure. Good Health and Happy Holidays to you.

I also don't know what scale to trust. If your scale is measuring 2% light it might show 9.8 lbs for the sugar, but close enough to 10 lbs that you can't tell. Then when you weigh yourself if your weight's off 2% that could be several pounds.

I think my scale is 5 lbs light (my mom's scale is 5 lbs heavy, so when I go to her house I gain 10 lbs!). I'm more trusting of doctor's scales because they work more like a balance instead of depending on a spring that might be stronger or weaker than it should be.
