I'm so sore after my work out yesterday....?!

Question: I had a really hard core work out with a trainer yesterday.. for the first time in quite awhile. I'm really sore. I have another appointment with him tomorrow.. Is it safe to work out when you are still this sore? I mean it helps when I stretch but it's still painful, and what can I do to keep from getting this sore again, besides stretching?

It's perfectly safe, although you may find that you can't push as hard this time. Also, if you are trying to build muscle, training when sore is counter-productive.

As you body gets used to the workouts, you'll stop aching!

You should drink alot of Water!!

You really shouldn't work out if you are sore... especially if it's "painful". First because if you push yourself more tomorrow the chances of getting a serious injury is pretty high. I remember I was out for a week - I couldn't extend my arm hah.

Secondly, muscles need time to grow. Being sore is a good sign. Your muscle fibres have been stretched and "damaged". Give them time to rest and they will grow back stronger.

If you are sore because you pulled a muscle then yes stretching will help. If you are sore because you just worked hard then thats a good thing and you should try to get to that point.

Rest for a couple days and do it again.
