Anorexic: But what do you think? Am I underweight?!


Question: Everyone thinks I am really skinny. For 5 months, I have been eating next to nothing and working out sometimes. I haven't weighed myself but the last time I did was 5 months ago and I was classfied as underweight then. You can see my ribs, chestbone, collarbones, elbows bones, feet, hands, legs, and even my face and neck. I'm so scared to eat so I usually don't. Do you think I should weigh myself? Am I in great danger?

Distorted image. That's what a lot of women have. They look at themselves as being fatter or chubbier than what they really are. It doesn't matter how many times other people comment about how they are really skinny, because the distorted image tells you that they are either lying, or you use their words as motivation to keep it up.

Look in the mirror, but don't look at your body, because you're obviously going to perceive yourself as being chubby. Look into your eyes, and see what's on the inside, because it's what's on the inside that counts. Some people want to become 'skinny' because they want to feel beautiful and loved. Please find other ways to feel beautiful and loved. Become active in group activities like church (if your religious) or something like that. Find something that'll make you feel better inside.

And to answer your question about being underweight and being in big danger? The answer is YES! Oh my gosh, being underweight can do so much danger! First of all, if you're really worried about being fat, then start eating now. Because starving yourself only decreases your metabolism and some day when you do decide to eat healthy your metabolism will be very low. But continuing on with the dangers, being mal-nourished can cause so much problems from liver damage, losing of hair, osteoporosis, and working in a health care setting...breaking bones is NOT fun.

Exercising is good. Eating the proper foods and enough of it is really good. When you do both, you feel better inside, which is part of what I was talking about before. I was talking about feeling better emotionally inside before by joining a group where you help others. Well, by eating healthy and exercising, you have all the good nutrients going through you, and it makes you more energized. More alive. It makes your insides work better, which makes you feel better physically, which makes you feel better emotionally.

It's a big circle. If you can start somewhere in the circle, it'll help greatly. Another thing to keep in mind is triggers. If you know a trigger that'll set you back, stay away from it, because a trigger can effect the circle too.

If you're really worried about being in danger (which I'm glad your looking out for yourself. it's a good step), then talk to a doctor. For many people, they have bad lifestyle choices because of emotions brewing inside of them. Talk to a therapist if need be.

if you went to the hospital since you wont eat yourself they might have to keep u on iv and keep your for a little while

i knew a girl who was anorexic she went to a treament center did not get better but she did pick up a hot dolce and gabana anorexic gf.fact.

bc you need to pick your weight up and also bc you have put so much stress on your body living this way, you should see a dr asap to help you with what foods will help without being harsh on you already struggling system

you are putting yourself in such a bad place you need to just it becuase its healthier to eat then not to eat you should talk to a consuler or therapist about your problem

yes, you are in danger. you can't keep doing that to your body. why are you so scared to eat? I think you need proffesional help from a doctor or a nutritionist to get you back to a normal weight. and yes, you should weigh yourself.

i think u need to get help cause it sounds serious...
u should eat cause u can die from anorexia.....
obviously u have some self esteem issues that u need to deal with...u need to learn to love urself....get some help...good luck!!

if everyone says you are really skinny, you are really skinny. you need food to survive. food is yummy. ice cream is good. so are nachos. and burgers.

I think you should get help. If you can see all those bones, yes you are underweight. You are also scared to eat even though you know you were underweight before and now your worst. IF you seek treatment early, you can be ok.

why are you scared to eat. food is not bad. food is what keeps us living. beside I dought to could get over weight, with a high metabism. Please weigh yourself and eat good food choices. beside bones are not attactive. You want some muscle so you need to eat protein to get tone.

i think u have got an eating disorder, no forget that, you have got an eating disorder, u need to get help, if u know u are undreweight, and your scared to eat, then that should tell you to go and get the help u need! good luck. please talk to someone close to you, and please, please do whats right. ive seen this is my mates friend. and sadly she aint with us anymore.not to scare you, but if you keep starving your body, and keep dropping body weight when u are underweight to start with, then soon enough, you will start to have health problems, they will just get worse, until the inevitable happens, our bodies rely on food to stay healthy and nourished without this, we simply persish.

You need to contact an eating disorder clinic in your area. Look in the phone book under Eating Disorders, or google it.
Yup, you need to get help - I know this because you are attatching feelings and emotions ('I'm so scared to eat...') to food.
I used to have the same fear.
Don't simply go to a support group or counsellor to talk about it (though this would help once you've seen a doctor). You need professional medical help as this is classified as a disease.
You will overcome it though, as you have already begun to help yourself. Don't just talk or wonder about it anymore - BATTLE IT AND WIN.

I think when someone has an eating disorder it is not good to track the weight loss. A person who eats too much might want to track their weight because when they do lose some pounds it is rewarding.

I think you need to talk to a doctor if you think you might be anorexic. You could also have a messed up metabolism which could cause weight loss.

If you are worried about gaining weight try to eat healthy. Choose a salad over a hamburger. Don't starve yourself because you don't want to gain the weight. There are so many ways to minimize calories in a diet. Maybe you want a ham sand which well then hold the cheese and mayo. Choose Sherbet over Ice Cream. Eat a healthy meal and then go jog. Exercise also improves the way your body metabolizes food. You will find that when you exercise you will feel better about your appearance.

Whatever you do try to maintain a balanced diet. There is a new standard for the Food Pyramid according to the individual person. Check it out online., You might be surprised on what you need to eat.

If you have further problems I highly suggest you see a counselor or doctor. There could be something seriously wrong and you may need to treat it immediately.

Yes you are in very much danger.You sound like you look like a skeleton.you need to eat.You probably need to seek counseling from a professional.It isn't normal for you to be afraid to eat.And girl get on that scale it wont bite you.

I have a problem eating too. I just don't like food or eating, but i force myself to eat so i'm not scary-skinny. Maybe if you don't like to eat you could try drinking high calorie protein shakes, that helps me. If you do have a problem with food, which it sounds like you do since you are scared to eat, you really need to see a doctor or talk to someone you trust about your feelings. Good luck.

It is probably best that you went and seen a nutrionist. You can request to see one at your local town or go in through the ER and request to see one. It is very vital that you do. Anorexia is not a fashion statement or a good time- it's a disease. It kills girls every day because of it. Girls who think it'll never hurt them that it's just making them skinny but they never realize they're beautiful just the way they are and they never will because inside they hate themself. No one else hates the way they look- it's just their own self wanting to be a perfect image to their self. I almost lost someone I love more than anything in this world to this. I dont want to see anyone else even come close.

You mentioned that 5 months ago you have been eating next to nothing, which makes me worried about you even though I don't know you. You should be eating at least 3 meals per day. A nice protein plus fresh vegetables and fruits. If you're not eating then it's making you feel weak, drained and you're hurting your own body. Food intake = energy. It's kind of like car and gasoline. If a car is out of fuel and don't feed your car fuel .. you're not going anywhere with your car until you feed your car some fuel. You kind of remind me of my sister in-law who hardly ate because in her mind she thought that she was fat even though she was bone skinny. When she got pregnant she had found out that she had type 2 diabetes where she had to inject herself with some insulin every day because growing up she had some poor eating habits as well as poor diet. Though, her daughter was born without any problems .. even though my sister in-law can get pregnant my mother in-law and I are worried about her health because she didn't take good care of herself growing up and if she gets pregnant again we're afraid that not only will she suffer greatly, but might hurt her growing baby if that were to happen. So, if you haven't eaten for a while then you might want to go see a doctor and have him/her look at you and should get checked out.

Hey, man. I know how you feel. I've been through recovery. I know how scared you are, it'll be OK, I promise.

Are you continuing to do this on purpose? It doesn't sound like you REALLY want to. It sounds like you behavior is a compulsion. There are many people who feel the same way you do about food, and it's not disgusting and you're not a freak. It is, however, irrational and deleterious.

You are in great, great danger. Don't weight yourself- you don't even have time. Get your *** to a hospital, now. Please don't think I'm being rude- I'm saying this because I wish I could go back in time and say this to myself. You are worth more than calories. Recovery seems horrifying, but it will make you stronger than you could ever guess. Go through with it. Let go and let be.
