Whats the best way to help my three year old loose weight?!

Question: She was very ill for a while with some kidney trouble and had to be on steriods for the last 5 months. She is finally getting better (Thank God) but has gained alot of excess weight from the steriods. She is on a low sodium diet already to lessen stress to her kidneys so everything she can eat is limited as it is......most the things kids really like are loaded in salt. Any suggestions from fun simple excersises to healthy kid friendly snacks would be appreciated.

Do you have a back yard? You can let her play in the back yard a lot. Play tag, she'll have to chase you around. You can dance with her, there are dancing games.

Also, there is this game these kids have at work, I can't think of the name right now, but you have to place these little disks around the room, and you have a little stick thing that calls out a color and you have to run to it and touch the disk thing with the stick. It's really fun and gets you going. You have to race against the clock and have to find as many colors as you can in a certain amount of seconds. I will find out the name of the game and send it to you. If she knows colors and numbers, she'll love it.

It's called hyper dash. It might seem like it's for older kids, but I work with a 3 year old who plays it.

sign her up for an early gymnastics class...it'l seem really dumb after awhile. but she'l probably fall in love with it and continue on throughout her life..

As long as the doctor permits, let her partake in normal, 3 y/o activities. Her metabolism should take care of the excess weight without a problem.

Given that she was ill, I think the best thing would be to consult a nutritionist, who can tailor the diet to her needs. Also, I wouldn't try to emphasize losing weight. Instead, I would emphasize healthy eating--lots of fruits and veggies and such. That will teach good eating habits without privation.

well she is very young so she most likely will lose weight just being an energetic kid. My Algebra teacher taught her kid that fruit was candy so at the store he never wanted the candy bars but some grapes or candied apples.

I thought the things most kids like were loaded with sugar or that BS aspartame crap?

You have a blender? Try fruit smoothies. Has her doctor not recommended a nutritionist or given you any info about this problem? Ask the doctor about it...it is pretty much his job to recommend her proper treatment.

In house activities.....hmmm. Well, cleaning can do a little. Make it a game. Dance. Play dress up ballerina. Be a kid with her, you'd be surprised how active they really are. Check out the yahoo groups, there might be something there to help.

play with her
