Do you burn calories thinking?!
Question: I'm 15 and usually at 15 year old teens don't read alot, but I just love books. Once in 7th grade (I'm in 9th now) I was reading and my history teacher said, "With all that reading and thinking you do, you can burn alot of calories." he wasn't the type of person that you'd asked to clarify a joke, and I wasn't sure if it was a joke so I never said anything. And then today I thought about it again. Do you have any idea?

Yes, you burn calories pretty much doing anything..even breathing believe it or not, even blinking! When you use your brain to think, your body is working which is burning calories.
Yes, just simply living burns calories.
yea ummm noooooooooo
proably not other wise there would be so many over weight people
Yes
Reading vs. Not reading will not make a difference. He was making a joke.
The electricity in your brain
burns calories
but so little
it's not even worth thinking about!
no...... ur not moving or anything sooo
That was a joke. Your brain is efficient enough (and has no moving parts) so it takes very little energy for it to do anything. Thinking or just existing it is a negligible calorie burner.
No
Yes, this is why teachers encourage you to eat a good breakfast the day of a test.
Hmm im not sure..but most likely not.
actually yeah. well kind of.
when your brain thinks it uses protein for it's energy source. If you dont have protein your brain will take protein from your muscles. therefore if you dont get protein in your diet and lets say you have a week of hard testing, your muscles will get smaller.
