If a person hasn't exercised in say, five years or more.....?!

Question: how many minutes a day of exercise should they start out with. Lets say 40 year old woman, 5"2", 200 lbs., most exercise I've done is housework, vacuuming, dishes, etc.
Your thoughts?

start out with stretching.
jump up and down or run in place while watching TV for a while, then start the stretching (your body will be more flexible when the muscles are warm.)
once you've stopped be completely not flexible (let's say 2 weeks to a month) start some activities.
i wouldn't start excercising unless i was at least a little flexible. you could tear ligments easier, and it would be so much more dangerous.
get an excercise machine and work out in front of the TV again, this time for only 20minutes a day, every day. (when you have the time.)
increase to half an hour, then 45 minutes, then to an hour.
you don't want to do more than an hour a day unless you want to be a body builder or something.
keep up with the stretching (it'll enable you to do more activities later) and start eating healthier.
i'm assuming you want to lose weight, so try to excercise every day.
don't forget to rest (take a day off) maybe every week or two once you get to the 45 minute point!
(do each amount of minutes for about 2 weeks to a month before switching to the next.)
good luck with your exercising!

well, that stuff isn't exercise. i'd start with pretty light jogging and work your way to running and then sprinting. as far as strength, start with assisted body weight exercise, then progress to body weight and if you can get to that level and do a good amount of pushups and situps, then you can progress to light weight training. then if you really want to get strong you can get to heavy weight and low reps but that seems like a while for you. for assissted body weight exercises you can do girl pushups, the decline part of pull ups(lower yourself for 5 second count on way down). body weight exercises can be pushups, situps, pullups, and body weight squats. you can then do light weight training.

um how about some morning jogs for about 30 to 45 min even with ur dog lol try changing your diet as well to more healthier breakfasts and lunches. you could follow the instuctional workout vids in your own home even for about and hour .. and just maybe try bellydancing lol oh and drink lots of water !
