A pound of fat equals 3500 calories. To lose 1 pound a week you will need to expend 3500 more calories than you eat that week, whether through increased activity or
decreased eating or both. Losing 1-2 pounds of fat a week is a sensible goal

if your doing it fast ...your most likely doing it wrong...and your doing it the unhealthy way.
working out and eating right is the way you should do it.

There's no fast way to lose weight permanently.
I'm on the wrestling team, and sometimes I can lose around 8 pounds during a 2-3 hour practice but most of it is water weight which will all come back.
Sometimes before matches I don't eat at all and lose weight that way but it's really bad because the moment you start eating again your body will store it all as fat in fear of being starved again.

Exercise and eat right, and you'll lose weight in the long run! :D

I don't think there is any fast way to lose weight except diet control and regular exercises. Based on my experience, taking 3 meals a day with half amount of calories (for me is around 700Kcal) that you normally take + 4 times a week exercises (at least 1 hour) will do. I lose 4kg in 4 weeks with this regime.

My diet:
breakfast: 1 glass of milk + 1 piece toast bread (no butter) (1 banana/apple)
lunch: 3/4 small bowl brown rice, varied vegetables and fish
before dinner: 1 apple or any other fruit (1 serving)
dinner: 1/4 small bowl brown rice, varied vegetable and fish
(less oil, less salt, non sugar drink, no coffee, no snacks, no fast food, no ice cream, no chocolate, no dessert)

Exercises ( 4 times a week) :
1st week, treadmill for 1 hour + 20 min swimming
2nd week, treadmill for 1 hr and 15 min + 20 min swimming
3rd week, treadmill for 1 hr and 30 min + 20 min swimming
4th week, treadmill for 2 hr + 20 min. swimming.

and remember to have enough sleep. I feel a lot fitter and healthy after the exercises. And most important, I return to my normal diet with mild exercises without gaining back the kilo. cheers
