Fast metabolism?!

Question: ok i have this cousin thats 1 year younger than me but he is 2 inches taller and lets say "wider" than me (i am skinny). so i think i have a faster metabolism than him but what does that mean and is there a way for me to get "wider not fatter?also people tell me i am lucky to have a fast metabolism but i really don 't think i am lucky
