Why are swimmers at the pool seem to be sorta big and hefty?!

Question: I've been doing laps at my gym recently and have noticed a lot of hefty, big boned swimmers...and I mean the serious kind that wear the funny hats and goggles.

Why is that? Isn't swimming one of the best exercises? Makes me wonder if I should do something else...

Swimming builds muscle and it is not like cardio when you sweat off the calories. Swimmiing is nott the best sport to lose weight.
Also when you swim it gives u a huge appetite.

I agree with Twirpy Gurl

swimming is good exercise. goggles to keep water out of you eyes and to see where you are going. the hats keep their hair back and out of the way. serious swimmers know what they are doing.

People on the swim team look very fit to me and I think it's because they practice a lot then they have swim meets.

Same with riding bikes, I see a lot of bikers thin and lean. So they must do it often.

Yeah, a variety of exercises is better. Try walking or running.on the other days..
