Are diet pills just a mental thing...like a placebo?!

Question: i was just wondering how exactly diet pills "work"..do they expand in ur stomach and make u feel full so u dont eat or is it totally mental..like u take the pill and then trick urself into thinking u have lost weight? im not saying its good to take them..i have taken them before and wont do that ever again..i was just wondering how they supposedly work because when i used them i lost weight but i also worked out and cut calories so i may have lost the weight on my own and then given the credit to the pills (stupid i know) just curious as to whats in them that is supposedly a wonder drug...

dont yell at me and say oh they are bad for u ur gunna die etc..i KNOW why do u think i do NOT take them anymore!!

I used to take diet pills, so don't worry, I'm not going to yell at you. I think it's more mental than anything. The only difference I felt when taking certain ones was, I was full of energy that eventually came to a crashing stop all at once. And that was no fun...also, I didn't eat a lot. If you don't eat, then your body thinks it's starving...so the next time you DO EAT your body stores it as fat instead of burning it like it should.

If you really want to lose the weight, count the amount of calories you take in a day, and split them up into SEVERAL small meals throughout the day. You'll still be eating the same amount every day, but in smaller portions, it'll keep your metabolism going so your body will burn the food more efficently.

Also, find some kind of workout routine you enjoy doing. I do cardio hula, some type of kick boxing, and some aerobics dancing at home. They have some really easy ones to do, unlike the ones that say "for beginners" and still go into it like you know what you are doing. I recommend The Fix, Firm it Up, and Aerobic Dance with Suzanne Cox (I own all 3 and they do GREAT). Also, drink LOTS of water. It's a natrual energizer without the hard core crash at the end.

For breakfast, try 2 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of buttered (and jellied) toast..it keeps you full longer and it's healthy.

Also, portion out your food. Like on cereal, it says something like 1 cup plus a 1/2 cup of milk.....trust me, it doesn't look like much, but it helps.

Diet pills screw up your metabolism.

they are laxatives that speed up your metobolic rate! (sorry about the spelling you know what i mean)

Some diet pills are medical versions of the drug speed. These work by giving you energy, and taking your mind off food. As soon as you stop taking them you'll put on weight again.

Try good old fashioned exercise. Thats the only way to keep the pounds off for the future.

Diet pills are not placebo especially if prescribed by a doctor. They help a person to increase metabolism and burns up fats. Other diet pills can cause the the fats to pass out through the bowels. They do cause you to lose weight but there are side effects like nervousness, insomnia, and diarrhoea. Some may damage your liver and other organs

There are different kinds that do different things but most of them are uppers - which wire you but also decrease your appetite. They may work short-term but eventually most people find that they like to sleep once in awhile. They can be very dangerous for people with heart conditions. No one realistically can use them long enough to significantly lose weight and once you stop, you gain it back. Skip em.

Diet pills are real medications. they are divided into many classes depending on the way they work; first type works by affecting the brain (the brain is responsible for making you feel hungry or full), they suppress the brain from feeling hungry; these medications are either hormones or drugs acting on hormones, thats why they might be harmful some times and for certain population. the second are medications work on your stomach and make full like fibers; they are not absorbed by the intestine, so they accumulate in the stomach and fill it with water thats why you need to drink alot of water with them, these products are usually harmless. the third type is that some medications grap fats in your diet and prevent fat from being absorbed, these ones work only on fatty diet only, they are good but they prevent the absorption of certain nutrients like vitamin K, E, A, and D because these vitamins need fat to be absorbed by the body. the fourth type is that some medications inhibit carbohydrate metabolism so they prevent sugar absorption. the fifth work by increasing the burning process in the body by stimulatin thyroid hormones because thyroid hormones stimulate energy production.
