Advice on loosing weight?!

Question: Hi, though it partially against my will, I have to loose weight according to my DR. She said my shortness of breath is due to my weight(I am not too heavy but I need to loose 10 pounds)

The problem is I LOVE food. I love, love, love it. But I like my health alot more. But today I had rice with dinner and when I went back for seconds my brother stopped me, he said part my loosing weight is that I have to skip on seconds. So while he was not looking I sneaked into the kitchen and took another batch. I felt bad but it was so good!! So now here is the problem: how do I keep myself from taking more than I should? I use to actually be hungry, but now its just out of habit like: well why should I waste this food? I should eat it. I need to break that habit. Also advice on good exercises. I started to walk but my brother said thats not really enough. Right now it's fine because I am off from school. But who about when I go back? I always have a jam packed HW sechedual. Thanks for answers!

Wish all I had to lose was 10 lbs...

My first thought was for you to go to Weight Watchers but you would have to have an adult go with you if you are a minor so if you can get someone to do that, I highly recommend going there. You eat regular food and can eat anything you want, just within limits which you can keep track of on their site.

You will be with others who can share the problems they have had and how they learned to control their eating, which it sounds like you are having a problem with now. I prefer their Flex Plan over the Core Plan but if you stick to either one and walk every day, you will lose weight. Just learn to continue eating the right proportions and exercising regularly and you will be able to maintain your weight and stay healthy.

As far as exercise, you have health issues and the last thing you need to do is over exert yourself. Continue your walking and try to do it for 30 minutes a day at a fast past with a friend or family member. If you continue to do that every day, you will start losing some weight because your metabolism will kick in and burn some of the calories.

I used to do alot of walking before the post polio problems kicked in and I was 120 lbs for years. I couldn't do other exercises and that worked well but, I walked alot and I walked very fast. Jogging could cause you to end up with joint problems in the hips, knees and ankles so I'd advise against that for now.

And your brother is right ~ cut out the seconds. You will have to learn to tell yourself "NO" and stick to it, which will get easier the more you learn to control yourself. Sneaking to get more is a good way to gain even more weight so once it's off the table, learn to leave it alone. If you must eat, eat apples, bananas, carrot sticks, celery sticks, a small salad with limited dressing. Limit the fruits because they are higher in sugar. As time goes on, you will adjust to eating less and be able to handle smaller portions.

If you become diabetic, you will have no choice but to eat certain amounts of food so it's best to learn how to eat now and keep your proportions at the right size and continue that throughout life.

Avoid fad diets. They are only temporary and very unhealthy and end up causing you more health problems in the future. You may not notice any problems with your body now but believe me, you will when you get older. You need carbs for healthy muscles (includes your heart) so be careful about limiting carbs, too.

My niece was 15 when she found the Spark People site and sent it to me. She was having different health issues from yours but by following their plan and recording her food intake each day, was able to take some weight off. Recording your food every day really helps you to see how much you are consuming Over what you actually need so carry a small notebook or something will you to record everything in so you can go to their site each night and keep a record there to see what progress you are making :)

Good luck and be strong. You can do it. Better to get your weight under control while it's only 10 or 20 lbs than to weight until you have 100 or more lbs to lose.

Sounds like the problem isn't food, but your relationship to it! Check out my website, sign the guest book and I''ll send you my newsletter.

you need to find a healthier addiction like instead of eating go visit your favorite web site, watch a good show, read a good book something that makes you feel equally as good or better yet hit the gym and if you don't like the gym take a dance class and if that doesn't work do aerobics.

I think the main problem is you are not getting enough protein and fiber. These two things keep you longer. Also, try cutting your portions down and your body will eventually adapt to eating small portions. (you might be hungry for a bit, your body will get adapted.) Also, here are some tips that will help you.

Exercise and eat right.

Stay away from fried foods, and foods with high fat content. I.E no mcdonalds, burger king, or fast food.

Eat a 1200 -1400 calorie diet, and exercise one hour a day for 5 days a week.

Eat foods such as chicken breast, turkey, fish, egg whites, (try to stay away from the egg yolks), anything wheat is usually really good for you (wheat bread & pita bread) Incorporate a lot of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Fish is also good. Try to eat three meals a day, or you can split up your meals into six meals a day. Stay away from trans fats, and stay on a low fat diet (20 grams per day). Oatmeal, and those healthy bars are good. For snacks, you can eat those 100 calorie packs.

As for lean cuisine for lunch, stay away from that. Lean cuisine meals have a lot of sodium on them which causes you to retain water.

There are also a variety of pastas now that offer whole wheat--just letting you know.

A sample lunch can include: a sandwich on wheat, with a bottle of water and a large apple. Breakfast could be oatmeal, or yogurt with fruit. Dinner could vary. You could bake fish, or bake chicken. Just stay away from junk food and greasy foods. Do not fight untill dinner. Eat healthy snacks. You can eat pop corn without better, celery, carrots, fruits, and soy chips.

For toning, you can do crunches, and push ups. For exercise take up running, swimming, jump roping or anything that works the heart. You can create simple workouts at home without a gym. (at first you might weigh more, but that is due to muscle weight) PS, try to exercise at least five times a week for a hour a day.

Good luck!

Remember to drink lots of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated
