Question: Well, I have been fat since I could remember. As a child , I didn't care and being too fat as a compliment. But as I grew older I have realized that fat could endanger my health. And I really don't want to be this way my whole life. I gain weight 10 lbs about every year or months. Please help me find a way to lose weight. Every time I try to lose weight I find it too hard. Hello! Your story compelled me to write, as I am just like you. I grew up as a fat big kid too; who didn't care about sports or health. For more than 10 years, I gained 10-20 pounds a year without knowing why. I didn't eat a lot, even though I mostly ate the wrong foods. I urge you to go see an endrocrinologist (hormone/metabolism doctor). Get your blood tested for leptin resistance, hormonal imbalances, HDL, LDL, T-3 thyroid & T-4 thyroid hormones. In April, 2006, I weighed 311 pounds (I'm 5'8"; was 25 years old then). My endocrinologist diagnosed me with Hashimoto's Disease of the Thyroid. It means my thyroid had been dead for 10 years and that's why I was gaining weight, I had no metabolism. And, this is what I suspect you might have as well. Or, hypothyroidism at least. Oprah has hypothyroidism. Signs of a thyroid issue: brittle nails, hair falling out, you're tired ALL the time, you do excessive napping (my usual length of napping in college was a 4 hour nap; and sometimes I woke up tired); gaining a lot of weight every year for no reason (leptin resistance).

I'm on thyroid pills for the rest of my life, but now I have lost 112 lbs. I have about 40 pounds to go. If you're planning on going to college, or may already be in college; do go see an endocrinologist before you gain what I call, the freshman 50! Not the 15! You can't unfortunately, lose this weight quickly. It's taken me well over a year and a half to do so. After all, I didn't gain this weight overnight either. I eat very well: low carb/low calorie diet; just like my doc instructed me to do. Avoid college carb-heavy food + high fructose corn syrup. I know it's hard, everyone's eating pizza but you. But it's worth it! I work hard; 5 workouts a week for an hour or 2. I do kickboxing, yoga, dance, jogging, swimming, weight training. You name it, I'll try it! The key is variety in exercise. You'll have more fun and you'll enjoy seeing what you're capable of accomplishing No matter what, push yourself to save your life. I had to save mine, for I was facing diabetes and possibly a wheelchair if I got any bigger. But now I'm happy, healthy, I love myself. I'm very confident (that's a first!) Boys are beginning to chase me (I love this part!) So, this is a journey that's more than about losing weight for you. It's about discovering who you are and loving who you are. And that's priceless. If you could lose the weight quickly, you'd probably miss the process of self-discovery. It'd go by before you have a chance to grasp it. So, don't despair! Know it is your choice to lose the weight. Commit to it completely! And it sounds like you want to change your life for the better! AWESOME! Defy everyone who protests or tells you "oh, a little bite won't hurt you!" Prove you can do it for yourself. Because, I believe you can. The rewards you'll gain from this journey are priceless.

Some tips:
If, for some reason, you gain a few pounds one week; don't get discouraged because that could be water weight or muscle weight- which is good! You're getting stronger! And then you'll lose the weight more efficiently.
Do combine your favorite but efficient cardio activity (I started by walking outside for a few minutes a day and pushed myself every week to do longer distances) + simple weight training. Reading a book on a recumbant bike does not count as an efficient cardio activitiy. The key here is to burn as many calories as you can per week. Kinda think of it like shopping. How much can you spend per week? How many items can you shop for? So go bananas with burning calories. But don't overdue what you can exert. If you exert too many, that'll work against you. Just work up to an average of 1 hr per day. And view your workouts as your "me" time. No one can bug you at this time. Forget all the problems, pressures, issues. Just get outside, go for a walk, and enjoy it.

If you do get diagnosed with hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's, do lose weight with doc supervision. Have a blood test and checkup every 6 months. Get a heart rate monitor to know your resting heart rate and your levels of average exertion. Get a Tanita digital scale (it's really accurate!). But do try to not be obsessive complusive over the scale. I get very obssessive compulsive with it, it's a bad habit. Haha! But do view it as a tool.

Anyways, I'm in the midst of writing a book to help inspire and motivate those who need to lose weight. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions or would like to chat.

Would love to hear how things go. You CAN do it! :D Mind over body. Have a positive mind and you can do anything you commit to!

Big hugs and cheers,
Krystal

kick boxing

Wow, get off of here and like go outside, say no to seconds, salads, fruits and vegetables are your new favorite foods.
Try pilates, it does wonders for your body.

drink water instead of sugary drinks and run a lot

start walking .. 30 mins a day every day will help jump start you

Try to exercise more. Join a gym and slowly work on it. When you exercise remember F.I.T. "F" stand for frequency and they say people should exercise at least 3 times a week. "I" is for intensity and they say to work 60 -80% of your energy. Lastly "T" is for time and they say to work out 30 - 60 minutes. Also try to walk 10,000 steps a day. You could buy a pedometer to keep track of it. That may seem a lot, but it's really not. Just don't stay in the house all day.

When it comes to food I would try to stay away from fast food and soda. If you don't lose weight from that you will at least feel healthier. I stop both and when I do eat fast food it's just not good to me and soda just is no longer appealing. Try to eat healthier and try not to eat fried food. Try baking and steaming your food and vegetables. Also when you do it try to eat more small portions and less big meals. It might help to buy toddler plates and bowls to prevent you from putting more on your plate. That's all I can think of right now. Hope you lose the weight =)

Yeah I was in the same spot about a year ago. I had about 75 pounds to lose and it looks like you have close to that. The best thing to do is to have the willpower and support from people. After that, cut out the crap like anything with sugar in it. You can experiment with diets, but im on Atkins. It restricts what you eat, but not how much you eat. Go online and learn more about it. Its definitly hard at first, but after 2 weeks of following induction, you should be at least 10 pounds thinner. I was stunned at my results

The Atkins diet has a high success rate.

A vegetarian diet is another option as very few vegetarians are overweight.
