Body mass index -- is mine normal?!

Question: I have a BMI of 21.7... I've been told this is right in the middle of underweight and overweight, but I feel like it's such a high number.

Should I lose some weight to lower my BMI?

A BMI of 21.7 is perfectly normal and I have no idea why people are asking for your height and weight, because BMI has already taken that into account and given you the thumbs up. It's basically a comparison of your height and weight and the range of 18.5-24.9 is normal. However it does depend on age as teens have a lower BMI range than adults.

But I do agree with some of the other posters that body fat percentage is so much more important than a comparison of your height and weight. That will actually tell you how much of your total body weight comes from fat.

That is perfect!!!

i always make under the live in BMI's

it depends on how tall and what ur weight is

Try this:-

body mass index is a crock! what really matters is your cholesterol

That is PERFECT. Can we trade? lol

you are not overweight....don't obsess about it...

how tall are you

same here! I thought i was fat, but i suppose maybe i'm not...

it sounds perfect!

BMI is no indication as to whether you are underweight or overweight. Yes, you have a normal BMI, but it really tells you nothing. If you're a 6'0" body builder who weighs 300 pounds, you will have a high BMI even thought you may have body fat less than 3%. A body fat % is the best way to figure out if you're overweight.

it's a calc, don't panic, ur normal.

It all depends on your age and height. But 21.7 isn't that high of a number. It may seem like a bad number, but it isn't really. I wouldn't worry about it!!

Well, it all depends on your height and weight. My apologies if it hurts your feelings. If you are around 5"1" - 5"3", then 21.7 is perfect for you.

Yes it's normal. But if you want to know more about the range you're in, try searching for the BMI ranges for your specific height or weight, or if you're male or female. I remember coming across one on the internet. You just have to fill in stuff about your height or weight and it'll compute your BMI for you. And tell you what it means.
