Is it safe to eat a 2,000 calorie deficit?!

Question: I recently used a metabolic rate calculator. I am 6' 3", 240 pounds, and 15 years old.

I assumed my metabolism would be high because of my height, but I never expected the calculator's prediction. It told me that I must eat 3,000+ calories a day without any exercise! When I put in my current exercise level, It said I need 4,000+ a day!

I have been dieting recently. My mother is a dietitian, so she recommended eating 2,000 calories a day.

Is it safe to have a 2,000 calorie-a-day deficit? It seems excessive.

A deficit of 2000 calories would be very dangerous. I think you may have interpreted the concept of a "calorie defecit" inappropriately.

The calculate told you that you need 3000 calories a day to maintain on a sedentary level (if you were to just lay in bed all day, no exercise). If you were to only eat 2500 calories, you would have a 500 calorie defecit. A calorie defecit is your maintenance calories (3000) minus the calories you eat (2500).

2000 calories is not enough for a growing 15-year-old boy. Try eating 2500 calories a day for a week - this will result in losing at least a pound a week. Hope this helped!

Trust me you probably eat a lot more than you know seeing as unless your an incredibly well built guy your overweight. You are in no danger of starving.

You should be fine, because those calculaters are usually high and off.
I would 2000 per day to lose, but than once you hit your goal add back the calories slowly.

I'm trying to lose weight too and it's sooo hard. My aunt is using a weight loss product and it's really working for her (100% natural). I'm gonna try it and I recommend you try it too. Check their website at
