Anemia and anorexia?!


Question: I am 13 years old and I weigh 97lbs. I am also 5 foot 3 inches. But at my last doctors appointment I weighed 111lbs, so I lost 14lbs. I dont eat very much (not on purpose I just dont have a very big appetite) and I am a vegetarian for the past 3years. I exercise a lot, and I am in gymnastics, swimming, and track.I was wondering if this could be anemia or anorexia or something else? Is it safe to lose that much weight at my age?

its not anorexia and anemia is low iron in your blood....


You naturaly want to weigh less, you shouldnt be over 100 that is disgusting.. and when you are in gymastics you dont want to weight alot because you wont move good.. so keep the good work up and lose more weight.. the smaller you are the better gymast you are and faster swimmer and faster runner you will be...

I was anorexic at one time so perhaps I can help. If you dont eat enough like 2000 calories a day and you exercise a lot say more than an hour a day you are overdoing it. Eat more even if you are not hungry because you can put your body in danger this way. Now if you are fine with your body image it is not anorexia. If you feel weak and you are not recieving enough iron in your diet then yes you could possibly be anemic. In this case choose iron rich veggies to strengthen up. Take care of your body because not eating enough can also burn off your muscle leaving only bone.

It might be because of that little meat situation with you. You need to eat meat, honey, it's chalked with iron, protein, and vit B12, all good for the body in certain amounts. This is a very crucial time in your life and you are still growing, without all of those vitamins and all that protein, you will become sick. You need to start eating more. With all that exercise you are getting, you are burning off what isn't there for the body to burn, as in those calories that your body would be burning off aren't there, and your body has begun to burn off extra fat - that's bad. Start eating bigger, heartier meals and (you probably won't want to, but...) start eating some meat, hun! At 5' 3" you should weigh around 115, and considering that you exercise so much, even more than that. You sound underweight, go eat something!!

it looks like you have Anorexia Nervosa.You have BMI less than 17.2. It is a serious condition but timely intervention will solve the issue.

What will happen if anorexia Nervosa?
- Electrolytes abnormalities including heart problem and very bad consequences
- Severe osteoporosis- the bone become thinner in density like a old women and easily fractured
-Menstrual problem and even inability to conceive
-Multiple vitamin and deficiencies of protein, carb, and fat, Iron (anemia), calcium and other multiple metabolic problems

My advice seek a doctor. Earlier the treatment better it is for your sake
