Are laxatives dangerous for losing weight?!

Question: ?

Answers: ?

In short, yes, they most definitely are unsafe.

Now for the real, better answer:
Laxatives are not an effective way to lose weight. The weight that you will lose from laxatives is all water weight and not fat. When you take a laxative, it takes at least one hour for it to leave your stomach and reach your small intestine, then it takes about another 2-3 hours to move through your small intestine into your large intestine and finally move the waste out your rectum. By the time the laxative has finally done its job, most if not all of the fat from the food you ate will have already been digested.
Repeated use of laxatives can actually cause constipation and then when you really do need a laxative to help you go, they will be ineffective in allowing you to go. Laxative abuse can also cause a rupture in your stomach lining or the linings of your intestinal wall, causing you bleed internally and SEVERE pain! Most often, the only way to reverse the damage is with surgery, but before they can even locate the rupture, they have to stick a long tube with a small camera on the end of it up your rectum (poop hole) and into your intestine- very uncomfortable! A ruptured stomach hurts more than giving birth!

YES if you take them to much you will mess up your intestines and it will eventualy cause them to shut down.. try eating more fibers and drinking more water or low cal soup.... Cut down on ALL fatty foods, dont eat sugar and foods with high sodium as it will go all to your hips thighs, and ankles,... Hope this helps hun..

Yes.

Yes, you will lose vital nutrients that you need, possibly your hair and your life. Repercussions of this could be dependence on laxitives after using for too long...you get "hooked" and cant go without them. Then there is the possibility of sores, infections and you can have your colon collapse or bleed prolapse, kind of means falling out or become incontinent. Take Care-Rachel.

YES!!!

Your body can become dependent on them then you will NEED them to go #2 for the rest of your life. Plus you can dehydrate your body and really adversely affect your health.

To be honest-used in moderation..no. Using them, however, to lose weight-yes. You deplete needed nutrients that are needed to keep the body running smoothly. Be safe-there are better ways to be happy!

Yes, laxatives are only to be used to relieve constipation. When you use them on a regular basis, it disrupts the natural rhythm of your intestines emptying process. Also, when your body is forced to eliminate (when it's already working properly), you lose important electrolytes and fluids that could result in dehydration, this is what happens when you have diarrhea.

ask yourself this. is frequent diahrea dangerous?

dehydration and electrolyte imbalance can cause your kidneys to fail and in some cases even cause death.

it is not only dangerous, it will dramatically slow down your metabolism so it will be harder to lose weight for the long-haul and your body will no longer be a burning machine but rather a fat storing machine.

If you need laxatives for constipation, I would recommend something natural like prune juice instead.

Laxatives are dangerous if taken without prescription. If you have abdominal aches arising unfortunately from acute appendicitis, and you take a powerful laxative, you may end up with a ruptured appendix with peritonitis and generalised sepsis. That is definitely very bad news if you do not receive medical attention same day.
I will not advise the use of laxatives without proper prescription.

I don't think it would be a good idea. That's how an eating disorder generally starts. Talk with your doctor so you two can brain storm on a diet and exercise plan specifically for you.
