Always hungry... (serious answers please)?!

Question: Ok I am always VERY hungry, especially in the evening, despite having a large meal for dinner, a rather large lunch and wholesome breakfast. No matter how much I eat, I just cannot satisfy my hunger and am constantly snacking and making things to eat.

Additional Info: I am 18, weigh about 170-180lbs, am 6ft and consider myself an active and healthy person. I weightlift every two days (I take sufficient protein to compensate for that though).

I am just wondering what is causing me to be sooo hungry and if there is anyway I can stop myself from being this way!? Thanks

What kinds of foods are you eating? As an active 18-year-old male, you should be eating plenty of protein from lean meats, eggs, milk, beans, cheese, cottage cheese, etc. Foods like white bread, white rice, chips, cookies, and other baked goods have a high GI and therefore are digested quickly, leaving you feeling hungry.

When you do strength training exercises, your muscles are torn down; however, after the exercise, your body demands calories to rebuild them bigger and stronger. So be sure to supply your body with the calories and nutrients it needs!

eat something. you're a frickin stick.

you could have worms, go to the docter or look it up
have you gone to a different country or eaten food from mexico?

Maybe you should have your thyroid checked. Mine was hyperactive for a while and I was always starving. It didn't matter how much I ate.

.... drink water whenever your hungry, your brain often confuses thirst with hunger... so just drink water whenever you feel like snacking... it really helps!
try keep yourself busy... take your mind off of eating...
try cleaning if you start to feel like snacking
hope i helped!!
Good luck!! =D

You're just a growing young lad! Don't worry that you're always hungry, be more concerned about WHAT you're eating. Don't eat junk food, eat whole grain breads and pastas. Clean meats, like turkey and chicken, or lean beefs, like sirloins. Don't down cokes, drink plenty of milk and water. If you snack a lot, eat some fruits and plain roasted almonds. Since you're working out, get yourself a good protein powder and have a basic shake before you go to bed. That may help at night since that's the longest you go w/o food. Talk to you coach to see how many calories you should be taking in each day.

It's called metabolism. I'm 33, 6'2", and 205lb. When I was your age I lifted every day and was about 10lbs heavier. I remember always being hungry also. The more you lift, the hungrier you'll stay. It's ok to eat, especially when you're working out, your body is hungry because your breaking down the muscle tissue, and you need to build it back up. Try eating more whole grains and fiber, it'll make you feel fuller, longer. Good luck.

Unfortunately, you can't change how you feel. But, you CAN control it!
If you are digging for a snack, put in a stick of sugar free gum or grab a fruit. Yogurt is also acceptable!
To stay healthy, exercise for 15 minutes after each meal.

from what ive read, u just probably have a very fast metabolism

You have problems with your blood sugar. The best way to help you is to find a natural herb called Gymnema Sylvestre. Find one which contains between 200mg to 350mg of Gymnema Sylvestre per pill.

I used this herb and it helped me gain back control over my eating and cravings. Good luck.

Hello

Sounds to me like you may have a thyroid problem. Happened to me when I was about 20. Having an overactive thyroid can lead to an increased metabolism. A simple blood test can confirm this or rule it out. I used to eat loads but was always hungry and still weighed very little. Some days I ate 2 dinners and would snack all day. I was active and cycled everywhere so I put it down to that.

I'm not a doctor or medical expert of any kind so you should check it out properly. Google it and see if you have any of the other symptoms. Its easily treated but equally you may just have a very fast metabolism, it'll slow as you get older.

If it is just a fast metabolism i find eating pasta and potatoes are a great way to fill up on carbs that keep you going but low in sugar and salt. Eating fast food, high saturated fatty foods or sugary stuff will only sort the hunger out or short periods of time. Since your active then you'll burn the excess carbs off and wont gain weight. try whole grain breads too. No comparison to the white breads and pasta when it comes to filling you up.

Hope that helps

Maybe you're pregnant...

Haha, j/k. No, These are the possiblities.

1......metabolism? keep eating. Some people digest their food really well and get almost all of the foods' energy but some people only get a fraction of the energy they could have gotten from their calorie intake or watevr. so you must be one of the second group. If it get's extreme or out of control, its not normal - go tto the doctor.

2......Parasite? There are tapeworms and other kinds of parasites you might have, even if you are very clean and do not eat undercooked meat. Parasites absorb alot of your food and cuse you to be hungry, eat alot, and not gain weight. Go to the doctor and check. If you do have a parasite, its no big deal, just take the perscribed meds and it'll die.

3.......ok, so if its not those two, get your stomach/ digestive tract checked out by a doctor.

4........ and if all those aren;t possibilities, go to a nutritionest. maybe what you think is wholesome really wont fill you up that good.

Hope I helped!

i have a friend who had her stomack stabled or mad smaller but i have a son who loved to eat all his life never stopped eating just like you, i told him to slow down but he thought this was mean but now he is 35 5,3 and 305 pounds now he says i should have liston to you and also he can not loose weight, it hurts me that he suffers like that because i love him , go to a doctor and tell him your problem they have something you can take unless you like your stomack stabled or mad smaller, your 6 foot now and i say you might be on the borderline of becoming obese, please dont do that, yes you can do something about and that is to learn to controll your eating so much, just trying to help take care of you just remember that. happy new year

Make sure you eat or drink something with a 4:1 carb to protein ratio wiithin 45 minutes after you workout. You need to make sure you are getting enough protein try getting in at least 60 grams and eating your protein first and at each meal . You may want to try some protein bars or shakes. Special K now has protein water which curbs your appetite.

Have you considered changing the patterns of your meals? Trying 5-6 meals per day, one every few hours? You'd still consume the same number of calories and balance of nutrients, but the time distribution would be different. I wonder if that would keep the hunger beast at bay.
