Can doing laborious work every day keep you in shape?!


Question: i do all kinds of things for work.im always moving heavy things.going up ladders,every thing i do most dont have the energy to do.like laying under a car putting in a tranny.moving lumber.i do this every day.im not fat.have a six pack,very toned.do you think i really need to exercise or if i keep doing what i do,that will be good.

it would be good to get at least one hour of intentional exercise everyday =]

I don't think so. I worked every day for 56 years, haven't missed much work at all. This is seven tens, most of the time twenty and, I've had up to three jobs at one time building my business in construction, carpentry.

I've had one major heart attack, went back to work about three days after getting out of the hospital. I had a major Hernia, rolled up a gym sock and put it under my belt and, finished off the day laying linoleum.
I am now crippled with Osteo-arthritis in the severe degenerative stages and have, permanent neurological damage from it.

Don't do it, it isn't worth it. Stop and smell the roses. Live life, I wish I would have.

define shape. before my accident was doing real heavy lifting etc, and was fit but wouldn't win a body building comp. the muscles you see on them folks are mostly useless in day to day life, can only be gotten by excercise reime. the muscles we use even in real hard work are not so defined or obvious, proof is in the pudding, look at your forearm if ya do lots of lifting it will be fairly large and knotted in muscles but biceps won't be so huge cuz they honestly don't "lift" that much.

Yes you do. As repetitive work will wear out a few joints and muscles quickly, while the rest of body doesn't get enough attention.

For healthy, strong cardio system, you need to raise your heart beat to approx. twice its rate and maintain it at that rate for 20-30 minutes, 3-5 times a week.

For fat burning and loosing weight, burning 500-1000 calories a day 3-5 times a week is normal.

For developing muscles or maintaining them, you need to isolate a set and tire them till hurts.

Very rarely can you achieve all these in daily work, no matter how active your work is. I go to a professional gym and a lot of the guys there are soldiers, builder and people doing very physical work. Gym equipment encourages correct posture too. Also fitness advisers at gym are great assets to help you with aches and injuries.

I also mention, you need a healthy balanced diet that support your goals. Drink minimum 2 litres of water every day.
