its all ways better to take about an hour afterward but it doesnt make much difference
as long as you take protein during that day it doesn't really matter but it's usually advisable to take protein half hour before you start working out so your body can start using protein right away. Whey protein is def useful but it is also necessary that you have high diet and that you don't substitute protein for regular diet.
