Opinions on america's obsession with weight?!

Question: you know whats really annoying? constantly worrying about my weight. america is obsessed with weight loss and WHY? I am too and I dont get it. I am just so AAAAAGH!!! ok this isnt really a question but whatever. I am so sick of worrying whether eating a cookie will make me gain 5 pounds. I wish I could just eat and stay the same weight or maybe I am and Im just not noticing. and people say eat healthy. salads and stuff? but whenever I eat healthy stuff like an hour later I crave something totally unhealthy! another thing that bothers me is that guys around here go for the anorexically skinny chicks. I mean Im not fat or chubby, but Im not super skinny. and yea. what is with the obsession with weight anyway? I know this isnt a blog so opinions anyone?

It is a time-honored tradition to make resolutions at this time of year. If your resolution is to lose weight - and keep it off, then keep reading! Here are six simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.

1. Lose weight with water.
Water is essential for everybody - it is also the key to losing weight. If you haven't been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight.

By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water (about 8 glasses) a day. Boil water and sliced lemons, and drink this throughout the day to help with fluid retention. If you are still not sold on the merits of water, try this on for size: water is a natural appetite suppressant.

2. Soup up your weight loss program.
A simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds: eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious, low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush waste from your body. People who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don't eat soup. Go for homemade soup whenever possible, as canned soups are loaded with salt and chemicals.

3. Eat early to keep weight off.
The human body follows a circadian rhythm, which means that the same foods eaten at breakfast and lunch are processed differently than when eaten at dinner. Studies show that when you eat your daily protein and fat at breakfast you tend to lose weight and have more energy; however, eating the same things at dinner tend to increase tendencies toward weight gain. I suggest that you eat your last meal of the day by 7 p.m.

4. Eat smaller meals, more frequently.
Follow an eating schedule with five little meals every day. Eating steadily through the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal. Make a low-fat trail mix from raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried plum, and apples and have it available at all times to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks.

5. Adopt a balanced approach to your diet.
Most of the fad diet programs out there nowadays are extreme in a few recommended foods, or else deprive the body of food altogether. This works in opposition to our metabolism and the results usually don't last, producing a yoyo effect that depresses your metabolic function - not to mention your self-esteem. We are natural beings that need a balance of nutrition from all sources.

Your diet should consist of a balance of organic sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of white rice and pasta, opt for brown rice, bulgur, millet, or buckwheat.

Eat more green, chlorophyll-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, spinach, and asparagus. Eliminate candy, sugar, soda, and all simple sugars from your diet. Excess sugar ends up being stored as fat in your body, which results in weight gain. Also, keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.

6. Walk off the weight.
The No. 1 cause of weight gain is inactivity. Physical activity is the key to speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. The best way to be physically active is to use your legs! Walk as often and as long as you can. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Step outside during your break at work and take a walk around your building. Consider joining a local hiking club. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the early evening.

they are just a bunch of fatheads

well weight wasnt always a huge deal, but marketing and the media brainwash us now.....i dont eat healthy, i eat whatever i want, i just dont overdo it and dont gain a bunch of weight. You only get one life, and you gotta be happy, starving yourself is not happy!!

dont stress over it.... i lost 10 punds recently and ive been eating.. butwhen i diet it see,s th pounds never leave

as obsessed as many americans are with weight... more than half of all americans are overweight or obese and that is scary, it leads to more health problems and early deaths. eating healthy doesn't mean you have to eat just salads, salads don't fill me up either but i do eat a very healthy diet. for instance, for breakfast i will have a package of low sugar instant oat meal but i add some raisins and walnuts and about 1/4 cup of a high fiber cereal to it, that keeps me full until lunch. at lunch i will have usually a lean cuisine or a healthy choice meal and sometimes will add an extra serving of veggies to it. for a snack i'll have an apple and some cheese or a cup of yogurt. i drink a lot of water and try not to eat chips and other junk. also i only eat fast food about once a month. the key is to eat more fiber and less fatty foods. not just salad salad salad.
when you eat more veggies you are actually able to eat more food so you will feel like you can eat more but you'll be getting less calories.

If you exercise regulary you can just about eat what you want, but just realize that if you eat a bag of cookies you will pay the consequences, well balanced meals 3 times daily will help with your cravings for unhealthy foods, don't skip meals its the worst thing you can do for your metabolism.

ill just say this about americans. there is an obsession to be thin but the celebrities get people yelling at them on the streets EAT SOMETHING and other insults at them to gain weight. but you dont hear about people yelling at obese on trhe streets.

theyy need to find a middle and iff they are gonna put pressure on people to be thin theyy need to be supportive not yell at people for what they have made them become.

hope that made sense.

You should'nt worry so much about your weight, b/c it depends on how you are on the inside. You could look perfect but if you are ugly on the inside no one will notice anyway looks can only carry you but so far. Cause they can fade with age. So enjoy life eat healthy and stay fit figure out a plan that works for you where you can have fun be realistic no one can really look like the models on t.v.

Most real men don't go for the anorexic chicks! If a guy cares too much about your weight, he's not worth it. I'm not fat, maybe a little on the plump side, but when I look in the mirror, I'm happy and that's all that matters! It's okay to eat that cookie! The biggest diet mistake women make is to deprive themselves completely of the things they love! Salads are healthy, but there are plenty of foods that you can eat that are healthy AND filling! The biggest factor is you have to be able to burn off what you put in! Don't believe those commercials "take this pill and you'll look like the chick in our ad". Taking the pill doesn't make you lose the weight, do people really believe taking a pill will give them a nice flat, firm belly? Yikes! You have to exercise for it! I'm not obsessed with my weight, however, my mother and all my aunts are morbidly obese, so my sister and I take weight very seriously. Not so much for cosmetic reasons, but more so for our health! I eat whatever I want to eat, I just make sure that I exercise enough to burn it all off!

As long as Americans are obsessed about their own weight, fine. I find the obsession with what "everyone else is doing wrong" much more troubling.
The guys will grow up-be healthy for you. If you try to do it for anyone else you will fail.
I am not overweight, however I am a smoker however I do not smoke around non-smokers. I just cannot believe how many obese, SUV driving people love to look down on me for that. Obesity surpassed complications from smoking in costs to the general public and the health care industry several years ago! And those gas guzzlers are harming my planet and my lungs much more than I am.
Thanks for letting me rant.
Happy 2008!

It's what HOLLYWOOD projects. Also, look at magazines. Majority of the people look at these venues for advice and approval. In some countries, only rich are fat. but in america, if you have a skinny girl, that means she takes care of herself. in turn, that means she is probably very conscious of the food she intakes.
When one is fat, he/she may develop several diseases. so it is better to be average in weight than above or below.

There is a dirty little secret in America that food manufacturers don't want you to know. And that is the fact that they are legally allowed to add chemicals to the foods they process and hide them under harmless sounding names like "spices."

What these chemicals do is actually make you hungry, because, if they make you hungry, you will eat more of their product. If you eat more of their product, you will have to buy more and they will make more profit.

The biggest mistake that was ever made in our country was to put food and drugs under the same roof via the FDA.

That group alone has done more to make America fat and unhealthy that any other organization. Plus, there is a double plot. If we are fat and unhealthy, there is a greater need for drugs to solve our problems. Again, the drug companies get filthy rich off of us. Can you spell C-O-N-S-P-I-R-A-C-Y?

I quit smoking almost 3 years ago, at the time I weighed 142 lbs. (I'm 5'6"); I looked good. I gained over 50 lbs. Depression set in real bad, starting dieting and have lost only 20 lbs. I would still like to loose another 20 lbs. but have become comfortable at my current weight. My friends actually laugh at me when I say I look fat. My doctor says I'm prefectly healthly; so I guess as long as you are healthy and happy that's all that really matters!

take a clue from the guys. Skinny is best. But don't go around calling girls anorexically skinny just because your jealous of us. Fat and what people nowadays like to call "healthy" will ALWAYS be unattractive
