The biggest loser?!


Question: (the tv show) How do they lose so much weight in one week! some lose like 25 pounds. i just dont understand how they can do that. do any of you know? cause i would love to lose that much in a week :)

a few years ago i went on their site to check the plan (they had up some sample eating plans/workouts). Um they ate 1000-1200 calories a day and exercise 3 hours a day...plus they have nothing to do all day but workout and focus on weight loss

thats tv, if u no wat am sayin everythin is fake,if there was somethin like this they'll be no fat pple on earth

Any great weight loss that is that much is mostly water, then a combination of primarily muscle tissue and maybe a little bodyfat. What I really don't like about this show is that it emphasizes weight loss rather than actual fat loss, and I expect the greater the "weight loss" an individual shows the more hype is generated about the show. This kind of weight loss is not healthy and it sickens me the irresponsibility of the networks for showing it. I suppose they feel it's less interesting and would create less buzz if they went by bodyfat percentages rather than sheer body weight loss.

Healthy weight loss, aka bodyfat loss, occurs at a maximum of 2 pounds a week under ideal conditions. Any more than that and you're losing more than just bodyfat. This is why taking bodyfat percentages is so much more a meaningful measure than scale weight or BMI.

The first week or two is primarily water weight. After that its generally between 2-6 pounds a week. They eat 500-700 calories and excersize about 6 hours a week.
