Seems to be a lot of people here with anorexia who dont see it as a problem?!

Question: if these people want to continue with their bad habits of starving themselves and throwing up...fine.... but why do they have to shout about it and promote it on YA?

they clearly do not want sensible advice (i have read many questions posted that said 'no sensible advice please'), so why post the question?

there are vulnerable people on this site that might start to think its a good idea.

not really a question, more of a rant, but any comments welcome.

I honestly think that a lot of people are just looking for attention. 90% of those people don't even know the difference between anorexia and bulimia (or the correct spelling for that matter) yet they say they've had it for years. I just ignore them or tell them to grow up. I'm not going to tell a 15 year old who weighs 105 pounds how to lose weight.

I understand what you mean also about vulnerable people. Someone may be 5'5" and 100 pounds, and another person is saying they weigh that and they are so fat, blah blah, and it may make the other person think they are actually fat.

i havent seen these sort of things here but I will agree with you 100% starving yourself is not the right thing to do

I answered a question earlier about the bmi's of catwalk models in which I said they were unhealthy. (Someone wanted to know the bmi of a catwalk model and I said anything below 18 is medically unhealthy. 17.5 is anorexic - yes there are other issues, it's not just about bodyweight, but that is one criteria medics use to diagnose it ). I still got thumbs down.

Edit - and again....

yes, i see, i feel sorry for the ppl who think that they are fat. especially when they aren't. but if u're talking about the disease, well... some ppl just don't have anyone to express their feelings too, and then their thoughts get all screwed up, and confused. and they don't know how to voice their opinion, and they don't know how to ask a sensible question, and their social life is messed up entirely. yahoo answers doesn't even begin to reveal these ppl's lives.

Anorexia is a mental disease so they don't realize they have a problem but I think the people who post it here are just dying for attention and enjoy the sort of reactions they get when they say "I'm 14, 70 lbs, and need to lose weight!" It's like, um, okay cool and random people on the internet can help you how?

i agree.
but it's different when they ask for help,
and they know that anorexia/bulimia is dangerous.
Consider the fact that they might not talk to their parents, or teachers.. they will ask the public because they can't get in trouble for it. I know it's not right, but many might end up proving the dangers to themselves from the lecturing comments they get.

I haven't seen any questions promoting eating disorders as such but I know what you mean about some of the more ridiculous ones! YA is useful to ask about sensitive issues however, because you can choose to remain totally anonymous which is I guess why a lot of people feel comfortable asking. What I do find irritating is the fact that I would assume people are here for advice, but yet sometimes when people try to advise them they add details saying 'omg don't lecture me!' and 'there's no way I can c my gp'. I just think well, if you ask a question like that - what do you expect people to say? What do you want us to say? 'Oh yes it's fine! You don't need help, just carry on the way you are with your eating disorder' Is that seriously what they want?
Just as annoying are the people who give sarcastic answers or answers taking the p*** out of serious questions.
Phew...rant over!

i agree...no point in asking question if you dont want sensible advice!

but then again, people ask question here rather than someone they know.. so they can get advice and opinions without people keeping an eye on them..

especially if its got to do with eating...
as close people will always make sure they are eating

i think most of us with EDs don't see it as a problem, we don't like it but it is necessary for us to acheive our goals. honestly i think that some people shout about it on hear because they are desperate to talk to some one about it but dont want to admit it 2 peoplethey no
