Can you have white/red potatoes when you are on a diet? Why or why not?!


Question: You shouldnt because those potatoes are high in GI which is a scale of 0 - 100 where 0 is slowest energy and 100 is pure sugar, and white/red potatoes are in the 80's. Try sweet potato it is in the 40's and very healthy.

While white and red potatoes are supposed to be high up on the glycemic index as far as sugary and thus potentially spiking the blood sugar and then the blood sugar crashing is dangerous and may cause type 2 diabetes (even in overweight kids), I would remove the term 'diet' from the vocabulary as it is really a lifestyle change and not to feel as though it is only for a short period of time. I would also not want to remove any particular food group from one's food plan or bingeing can occur, at a later date and then the pounds come back on +.
