Tomato sauce is quite healthy. From what I've heard/read cooked tomatoes are better than tomatoes as the concentration of lycopenes are greater. White pasta is pure junk. All of the good stuff from the whole wheat is taken out to help make the white color. Also, I think it's actually bleached to make it even whiter.

Therefore, whole wheat pasta with tomato sauce is quite good. Add some steamed veggies and you've got a good, whole, cheap meal. (My husband and I can have a dinner of whole wheat pasta with tomato sauce and steamed veggies for less than $2, maybe $1.50 for the two of us. We buy Hunt's tomato sauce and Heartland pasta from Wal-Mart, both of which are under a dollar a unit. The veggies come from Kroger for a dollar a bag.)

I heard pasta has alot of carbs.

Pasta is part of the Mediterranean diet, which is actually a lifestyle. You can read more about it here

The marinara sauce is great for you. Pasta does contain lots of carbs, but if you choose a whole wheat or multi-grain it is very good for you. In our home we eat the Barilla pasta plus, which has added fiber and omega-3...you don't need to eat as large a portion since the high fiber fills you up rather quickly. (It also tastes mighty good with marinara sauce :) )
