College student diet help?!

Question: Hello, I'm in my last year of art college and I am REALLY out of shape. I've gained 50 pounds since I've started and now I'm a whopping 165 at 5'1". You do the math :( Since then I've gotten really top and middle heavy and would like to start eating better.

But I want to get into shape even if it means eating better, I'm really uphappy right now. I really have no time to do much when I'm out. Sleep cycle is off.I walk everywhere and take the metro so I'm at the very least that much active. I don't mind cutting out fast food and all, I just needs tips on snacks I can eat throughout the day that won't leave me hungry and staring at Burger King, Chipotle or Mcdonalds across the street.

Anything! Salads, recipes, shakes, instant breakfast meals (very nice because I don't have time to cook breakfast). Anything to make the day simpler! With veggies, I'm kind of picky though. It's easier to say what I do like so, green beans, raw carrots, corn, potatoes, and brocolli is alright I guess

The best way to lose weight is start off your day with breakfast. I know that many college students don't have much time to spare, but if you REALLY wanted to, you would wake up 15 to 30 minutes earlier to have breakfast. Eating breakfast speeds up your metabolism and induces your body to burn more calories than usual. So I feel that eating breakfast is an integral part of a healthy diet. Some fast breakfast ideas:
1.) 1 cup high fiber cereal with 2/3 cup low-fat or skim milk, plus a fruit, like an orange or a banana. (Would be better if cereal is organic. I like Nature's Path cereals. Can be found at your local health foodstore. If you can't afford organic, go with Kashi cereals.)

2.) 1 packet sugar-free instant oatmeal, cooked in water. Add 1 tbsp chopped walnuts and 2 tbsp raisins. You may lightly sweeten it with all-natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup.

For lunch, NO FAST FOOD! However, Chipolte isn't too bad because you can control what goes into your burrito. For instance, you can order one burrito with healthy ingredients like chicken, beans, salsa, and lettuce (skip the cheese and gaucamole). Also choose lighter lunches, like soups and salads. Cut down on dressings and sauces, as they add unecessary calories.

For dinner, I'll give you a healthy chicken salad recipe that is quick and easy, plus low-cal and healthy:

4 oz Perdue chicken breast strips (these are pre-cooked chicken strips that are ready to use whenever you are! You should be able to find them at your local supermarket.)
1 1/2 cups mixed spring salad greens
1/4 granny smith apple, chopped
2 tbsp gorgonzola cheese
2 tbsp chopped walnuts
2 tbsp balsamic vinagrette (1 tbsp olive oil + 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar).

This is a quick and healthy salad that you can prepare for dinner (plus, it's delicious). You may eat this salad with 1 slice of whole-grain bread.

For snacks, only eat fruits and vegetables (apples, grapes, carrot and celery sticks) and skip the junk food. Also control your serving sizes.

Good luck!
