I have muscle aches and pains after a heavy workout should I exercise tomorrow?!

Question: You should feel it when you work out and your body should hurt for NO MORE than a day after working out. If you work out vigoriously and then don't a few days...and the whole time you hurt, you need to slow down because you are ripping your muscles badly.

You hurt when you work out because you are ripping your muscles, but this helps to grow new stronger and bigger muscles.

Remember: 1 day hurt-good. More than 1 day-take time off from working out! You are going to continuously hurt though because you are getting used to working out. So, take a day off and if you are good by the next day, then start working out again....and keep the same momentum and don't slow it. Once you get to where you can't tell you are working out....either increase your exercising...or stay at that pace and work out every day.

Last Decemeber I joined a gym and it took me about a month and a half to not hurt after working out. I was working my body realllllly hard though. I would go in for 3-4 hours at a time and do miles on the treadmill and lift weights. This is how I found out I wasn't working out like I should.

1 hour of good work out is a good work out. You can do some cardio-maybe 2-3 miles on the treadmill. Depending on how long it takes to do a mile, but make sure you are sweating or you are not doing ANYTHING but burning calories...and the few calories you burn while on the treadmill will not make a difference.

I met with a trainer...so I know what I'm talking about.

Get in that gym! Work out for at least an good hour! Don't stop for breaks! Make sure you are sweating! Make sure you aren't working yourself too hard! Within 3 months you will be able to tell a difference.

OH and remember you will gain weight to begin with! Muscle weights more than fat and you will be building muscle for quite a while then you will start losing weight....and fat! The more muscle there is, the easier it is to burn the fat!

Most importantly....STRETCH OUT! Stretch out every muscle in your body. It will make your work outs more bareable! And you will feel so much better with a better range of motion with your arms and legs!

Yes that means your working your muscles right and waking them up :)

If you really are sore then only take a day break and get back into it.

You will stop being sore after 10 days.

Good luck:

if you think you're up to it, sure. If it causes you pain, stop.

To prevent cramping after excersize and reduce strain on your muscels always warm up properly, and warm down as well.

Was it your first exercise. If it was you should go back and in a while you'll be ok. Just be consistent to see results.

Depends on the level and type of pain-- the "burn" kind of pain is a muscle fiber rebuilding and that is the kind of pain you want. A strain or pull which has a sharp uncomfortable pain is injury and those musles/tendons need rest, ice, elevation and antiinflammatory. It is best to switch up your workouts on a daily basis so if you did weights and strength training yesterday do aerobics today or even Yin Yoga to stretch any overworked muscle. If you think you are injured just lay off and start in again easy does it tomorrow.

No after you worked you should go running and tomorrow do another workout on a different part of your body. Then the next day go run again.

Stretch out the muscle that is real sore throughout the day.
Massage it and maybe add heat or ben-gay.

If it is to sore to workout work another body-part.

Good Luck!!!

don't work out again the next day, you are seriously hampering your progress by not letting your muscles rest. Gym work is just the stimulus your muscles need to go - your rest daya are when the growth takes place. Start increasing the amount of times between your work outs and watch your results improve

no, but next time stretch

When you use muscles, you release lactic acid. That causes muscles to be sore. I would stretch out the group you worked before and work through ranges of motion and then I would work a different group. One thing you should pay attention to, if it continues, you need to back off a little but it is normal for muscles to be sore for several days to weeks after starting a workout program.

The main problem people have with excessive soreness is their lack of nutrients in their bodies to repair themselves after a hard workout. You should be consuming more food when you are working out (especially heavy workouts). Glutamine is essential for repairing muscle. You will also find a Protein/simple carb shake post workout will help tremendously with muscle repair. You should have three/four workouts to help with muscle repair. I use back/chest/leg/shoulders means I will have at least four days repair time in between muscle group workouts. Working out the same muscle group when you are still sore will not help you gain-it simply re-tears the same muscle and it wont fully heal itself and grow.
