What kind of results have you achieved from Pilates?!


Question: I have never done Pilates (I have read up on it a little). Does this really help in body toning? For those that partake in this activity, how often do you do it and what body parts have you noticed results in?


Answers: I have never done Pilates (I have read up on it a little). Does this really help in body toning? For those that partake in this activity, how often do you do it and what body parts have you noticed results in?

Pilates is harder to learn than other types of exercises. First you have to learn how to breath properly, then you learn how to isolate muscles. Mind you, you also learn the names of muscles. Once you master this, you start with the core strength, what I would term my abdomen, or girdle of muscle in the abdomen. You learn to tighten the pelvic floor muscles, all females need to learn this to stop bladder incontience later in life. Likewise it improves your balance, something that we loose as we get older. Now while I was more concerned on these aspects, I was some what surprised when I found 'bulges' on having a shower? Turned out the bulges, were muscle. I reckon if I had kept up the Pilates Class, one hour a week, I would by now be entering the Ms. Universe Contest! Some relations who I had not seen in years arrived and said 'Gill you look like a male muscle builder!' I stopped the Class but still do Pilates at home, 30 mins once a week. I have noticed my menopausel bulge has gone, me butt has gone, I have toned arms, legs, more upright posture and thin. I then took up Aqua Jogging with another PT, so arrived in my swimming costume whereupon the new PT said 'You have excellent muscle tone?' I should point out I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibro, and prolapsed disc, now I have excellent muscle tone! Not sure if that is a health condition or not. As I say I have nothing to loose by trying these forms of exercise and as long as it is with a PT, everything to gain. Good Luck
