So sore...what can I do?!

Question: Hi everyone...I started lifting weights again last night (haven't done that since college...it's been a few years) and I am incredibly sore today. Is there anything I can do, besides stretch, that can help? Also-even though I'm barely able to move, would it be ok to try and at least walk 30 minutes today on my treadmill instead of run, to get some kind of exercise in? Thank you!

I don't know how you do the weights.....

Are you starting with light weights or you go straight for the heavier ones?

Considering you haven't been exercising for a few years, it's best to start off your lifting exercise on an easy tempo first.

Lift lighter weights (3, 5 lbs) for a couple of weeks, then when your body's stronger, gradually increase your weights.

Before lifting weights, warm up first. This is a must, to prevent injury and soreness.

This article on lifting weights might help you out: http://www.perfect-body-toning.com/stren...

For treadmill walking, it's fine to do 30 mins but since you've difficulty in movement, safe bet is to do a 20-min slot first, to test out your body's adaptability to the exercise......

In the same way like lifting weights, start slow and gradually build up your tempo. Don't just jumpstart and do high intensity walking.......Risky for you.....

Running might not be good idea for the present for you given your body condition. Focus on walking first and see how it goes.

You could steam, take a good hot shower or bath after working out!

Make sure that you don't over do it on weights, always be careful and take proper precaution!

I know of this hydration drink that is designed to help with the whole soreness thing. Email me and I will send you over some information!

I hope this helps, good luck!

Take a paracetemol!!

Make sure you get enough liquid and take a soak in hot water. It will last a couple days.

You need to take yourself slowly. You can not lift a bunch of weights and you havent in years. You have to build your body up to it. First for one week start lifting 2 pounds. Next week 5 pounds. The week after that 7. Each week lift heavier weights! Also to get rid of soreness try using BenGay soreness cream. When applied to the sore spot it will turn hot and cold, relieveing your pain. Apply BenGay & if you are not sore in your legs it would be ok to do a slow walk on your treadmill. Just do not overwork yourself, and do not work out the sore spots!
I hope that I have helped!
