Is 6 foot tall 205 lbs overweight?!


Question: government websites say it is overweight. But to see me, i am not. I am active 5 days a week, practice martial arts and weight train. So why does these sites say a person of my height and weight is overweight, Do they take into account everything? Wondering....

Those government health websites and BMIs are off. It doesn't take into account of what type of person you are, active, sporty/athletic. It typically goes by what an average person is at their height and weight. Of course muscular or athletic people's BMIs are going to be higher than normal, but that doesn't mean we're overweight or unhealthy. I work out and do Muay Thai and supposedly I'm overweight, but of course in a good way. I'm 5'7" at 165 lbs of muscle with around 7-8% body fat, which is almost nothing.

* Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
* Overweight = 25-29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

your BMI is 27.8 so it is on the overweight side

muscle weighs more than fat....put that in reason that depends what your percentage of body fat is you can get the pinch test to find out your boy fat percentage at a doctor or at a gym.....then you can find out if your body is good....as long as your happy with your body and keep active your fine

by showing how much you exercise and and martial arts is said to be a really hard sport so i think you have alot of muscle and or just keep up being active your BMI is fine for how mich activity you are in.....Be happy with your body that is the most important thing..

if you eat healthy food and dont go out to fast food all the time 6 foot at 205 is a good weight range for you as active you are

It really depends upon how much body fat you have. But given, if you are as active as you say you are, it shouldn't really matter much at all.

I think any skinnier and you'd be TOO skinny! 6' and 205 is beautiful :)

as long as your healthy its okay

no way.. to me that is normal. thats how big most nba players are! lol

Depend on your bone frame... If large, then I guess it is normal... If small or medium frame then you probably need lose weigh and watch your food...

I think it is a little, but I varies by body style. I am also 6'0 tall, and I weigh 215. My weight often fluctuates between 215 and 195. I play hockey and have broad shoulders, and when at 195 I am still a little heavy. Unless you are absolutely ripped, then you might be a little overweight.

I think it is not overweight.
Especially since you don't seem to lead a sedentary life.
