I believe that you do have the willpower to do whatever you want to do.

But maybe you don't WANT to diet? It sounds as if you might be a binge dieter (like me!!)

Why are you on a diet? Do you really need to be on one? Are you overweight?

I'd advise - check with your doctor to see if they have any advice. You don't need to diet unless you are overweight. Food should be enjoyed!

Also - see if you can forget about food sometimes by focusing energies on other areas of your life - especially relationships. Keep yourself busy for a while - join some interesting groups, that kind of thing.

Hope this helps and sending good thoughts.

look into ur mirror, that's what i do! {{no joke}}

I'm sorry I don't know where to get it. I need a boatload of willpower too.

I think its ok to eat. crash diets are not the answer. the truth is you should always have a balanced diet. when i say diet it doesnt mean lose weight diet. It means a healthy nutrition plan. its ok to have what they call a cheat meal or something you want. you just cant eat like that all the time.

Willpower comes in a can. The iCan.

it can be hard to break the chain but one way is to keep your mind busy

think of something you like doing and do it

i find that if im engrossed in something then im less likely to be thinking about food or smoking

i cant tell you what to do only you know what will keep you busy

list why you want to lose weight remember every time you eat something you are getting further from tht goal.

try exercise it dont have to be hard it can be walking cycling or some sport better to do it with a friend easier with company

the only person who can do this is you and you alone

You should try this diet: http://www.slimmingworld.com
You do still need willpower, but not as much with most diets. It's not a crash diet, it actually encourages you to EAT UNTIL YOU'RE FULL. And it really works; I lost four stone in about 4-5 months. You do need some willpower, like you can be eating chocolate and cake all the time, but honestly, this diet is AMAZING. Good luck!

I used several techniques all at once to finally quit. One Doctor at the VA recommended Welbutrin a mild anti-depressant used by people who tend or are compulsive in their behavior. I also used the Patch at the same time. I used it strictly as recommended and had it on all the time for a I think a month. Also, I realized that I was not going to live long if I did not quit. Long in this day and age is like to 85.
I also had counseling through the Mental Health Clinic at Kaiser. It worked for me. Good luck.

you can buy anything on ebay these days.

First, you need to get set in your brain that diets simply don't work! The reason is, as soon as you go off the diet, you revert back to your same old eating patterns! In fact, most people who go on a diet spend the whole time in anticipation of the day when it will end and they will be able to get back to their old eating habits that have already proven to make them fat!

Thinking in terms of willpower is setting yourself up for failure. The idea that you can will yourself thin attaches too much pain to the process. It makes you think in terms of deprivation, denial, limitations and any other descriptions that carry a negative conotation. Any time you try to accomplish anything with that much negative energy attached to it, you are doomed to fail.

Instead of having pain work against you, learn how to make pain work for you. Instead of thinking of weight loss as a matter of willpower, start thinking of weight loss as a goal. When you set a goal, you can start attaching positive energy to it. Let's say you set a goal to weigh 120 pounds. Think about all the things you could do at 120 pounds! You could wear all those sexy clothes, you could move and breathe effortlessly, you could get second looks from every guy you pass, the list could go on and on! When you start focusing on all the positive aspects of reaching a goal, you start attracting to youself everything you need to reach that goal.

Now, here is how you get pain to work for you in reaching your goal. Instead of thinking about all the negatives and deprivations of limiting your food intake, start picturing in your mind all the negative things that will happen to you if you fail to reach your goal! Every time you are tempted to grab a "no-no" snack, or take an extra helping or stuff your face with something you shouldn't, stop yourself at that moment, close your eyes and picture whatever it is you are tempted to eat causing you to baloon up to 500 pounds. Get a vivid picture in your mind of your heart loaded with cholesterol struggling to pump blood to your massive bloated body. Picture everyone you dearly love crying uncontrolably beside your casket yelling at you for leaving them prematurly because you would not stop eating! If you attach enough pain to the idea of overeating and enough pleasure to the idea of reaching and staying at your 120 pound goal, the job becomes effortless.

Tony Robbins said it best in his book,"Unlimited Power," when he said, "The mind is incapable of distinguishing between reality, and what is vividly immagined." Effective weight loss is 95% a mind game. The first step is simply making the decision. Every time you pick up a morsel of food, you make a decision. Unfortunately, for most of us, our eating decisions are made "mindlessly." That is, we do it without thinking. Things start to change when we actually start thinking about our mindless decisions. Your mind is the most powerful computer in the world. You can use it to change anything about yourself. It is so powerful that it has the ability to automate almost everything about you. For example, if I said," Get up, walk out the front door of your house and go stand across the street," you would not have to think about how to do that. If you decided to do it, you could "pull it off" without a thought. In fact, while you were doing it, you could be thinking about a dozen other things that need done. That is because your brain has the power to put multiple body tasks on 'automatic pilot!" Unfortunately, most of us allow it to put our eating on automatic pilot, and that gets us in big trouble. If you don't believe it, try sitting down with a really good movie and a full bag of your favorite chips or cookies. At the end of the movie, count how many chips or cookies are left, and try to remember when you ate each one!

When you make a conscious effort to force yourself to think about every morsel of food you put in your mouth and utilize the pain/pleasure techniques I outlined above, controling your intake of food becomes much easier.

There is one other aspect of the mind and eating that everyone needs to be aware of. And that is to discover the hidden reasons why we overeat. I always use the example of myself. When I reached 300 pounds and got to the point of not being able to bend over to tie my shoes without having to come up for air, I attached enough pain to not losing weight to be able to lose over 70 pounds. As part of my recovery from obesity, I explored the hidden attitudes I held about food. What I discovered was that it went all the way back to my childhood. I remembered that just previous to the time when I started to gain weight, my parents would have terrible arguement about money. My father was a compulsive gambler. It was not uncommon for him to come home late on payday with no money because he had stopped at the Elks Lodge and gambled his whole paycheck away playing poker. One of the strongest points my mother would alway scream at my father was," How do you expect me to be able to feed these three kids when you don't bring any money home?" I was about 8 years old when those words burnt a message deep into my subconscious mind that, "there might not be enough food and we might starve!" As a result, whenever there was food on the table, I ate all I could get, because it might not be there tomorrow. That conflict never got resolved in my mind. The result: When I was a junior in high school I weighed almost 300 pounds!

Getting that conflict resolved and realizing that there would always be enough food for today and tomorrow took over 40 years. When I finally made that realization, it was like a tremendous weight was lifted off my shoulders, and it made my journey toward normal weight a whole lot easier!

In closing, I would like to share with you a Website that has been a "Godsend" for me in my journey toward normal weight. Everything on the site is 100 % Free and it has everything you would ever need in the way of resources and support for weight loss.

It is http://www.SparkPeople.com

Understand that you will be hungry, but you won't be starving. In this case you can't continue having your immediate 'wants' AND have your long term want too.
People are finding that they are so used to getting immediate satisfaction that they can't do without it until their long term needs are on the line.
In your case, perhaps you need to hear the doctor say "you have diabetes" or "you have heart disease" before you'll truly be able to let go of the 'want' and aim for the 'need'.
