Coffee or Soda- Which one should go?!

Question: I am gradually cutting back on my caffeine consumption. I am one of those that constantly has to have something to drink. I typically drink 2 cups of coffee a day and 5-6 sodas a day. I have cut back on the soda to one a day but have increased my coffee to 3 cups a day (with splenda and ff creamer). I also drink plenty of water so that is not an issue. Health wise if I only took ONE away- should it be coffee or soda???

Definitely the soda. Coffee has no real calories and soda is loaded. I have read studies that actually say that sugar free soda is just as bad or worse than regular soda for putting on weight so watch out for that too. Be sure to drink plenty of water. If its the flavor you want you can get flavored coffee and add some Splenda to it for additional sweetness. The flavorings used in coffee are natural and artificial just like you use for cooking. No real calories in these.

You can see a great list of flavored coffees here:

Soda <*-*>

I'd take away the soda. First, if you're drinking regular soda, you're consuming a lot of empty calories.

Second, dark colas contain a lot of phosphorus, which can cause you to lose calcium from your bones.

Third, increased consumption of carbonated drinks has been linked to increased risk of cancer of the esophagus, which is usually fatal.

Fourth, the acid in sodas has been shown to weaken tooth enamel.

Start off with soda. It has alot of sugar and calories. At least with coffee you can limit the intake of the sugar.

I would ditch the soda. I can't get up without knowing I can have a wonderfully steaming cup of coffee first thing!

soda if you must. Gen rally has more sager and there is a element within, (begins with a p, but for the life of me I can't recall) that damages your bone density.
That being said, I can live without coffee, but can't live with out diet cola, damn it.

Definitely soda.
