Is it possible for me to get fat when I'm overseas?!

Question: I'm from an ASEAN country and going to Australia to further my studies.
So, as you know it, I'm kinda on the skinny side at BMI 17.5
I don't eat much and I have lightning speed metabolism.

My mom says I'll put on atleast another 10 kilos when I head there,
But have any of you experienced that?

It is possible. I have friends who came to New Zealand for an exchange and they put on 20-30kgs over the year.

I know when I went overseas for a year I put on 20kgs (I've lost it all now though).

It depends what you're eating and where you're staying. If you can cook your own meals, go to the supermarket and choose food that is healthy. Try and walk everywhere. It's great exercise.

Some people are just naturally skinny and can eat a lot.

Some people when they go overseas eat a lot because they're homesick and they comfort eat. So make sure you go out, make new friends and socialize a lot. Call your family regularly. You should be able to find a community with people from the same country as you are. Especially if you're going to be living in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or another large city there.

You could probably afford to gain 10kgs and still be healthy though =] you are on the skinny side.

Good luck, if you like you can email me =] I use to live in Australia.

Moving into a different lifestyle with different foods could cause you to gain weight.

To avoid it, keep up your normal activity level - your fast metabolism will help, but often when studying you pick fast food and unhealthy snacks because they're more accessible. so make sure you learn how to make your own healthy and nutritious meals - there's plenty of good food here in australia, you just have to be sensible like you would wherever you are

i think the best thing is just keep your way what you want too or not but you just go like your mother has told you it is the good idea as well.
