I have more experience with gastric bypass than lap band surgery. Either way, pick a surgeon with LOTS of experience. Someone who does nothing buy bariatric surgery. Both will completely change your eating habits. You'll lose about a pound a day with bypass. No rich foods ever, and VERY small portions. Lot's of insurance companies will pay for the surgery because it's cheaper in the long haul. Bad knees, diabetes etc. will cost the insurer more, so they usually pay.

It is much better than the bypass, but don't do it. All it does is make it so you don't eat so much. You could die from vomiting or hard coughing after the procedure. Here's an idea. Don't eat so much. That would be the end of it. Get the information about the meals after the procedure and just do that without the procedure.

I've heard stories, and sometimes things go really bad. 1 person was telling me that their friend actually grew another stomach on top of the lap band. You also have to realize that u may be spending more because of getting the surgery...like say you lose a whole bunch of weight really fast, and have to get the excess skin removed. You can easily throw thousands of dollars away with the plastic surgery you'll need after wards.
