Am I destined to have a pot belly when I grow up?!

Question: Just about all the males on my father's side of the family have had a pot belly. I'm thin right now at 16 years old, but am I going to have one purely because of genes? I don't want to lose my slim figure.

I'm sure I could keep it off by eating healthy, but can you fight genes?

Genes do not determine everything. Our genes only give us the guidelines to our character and body but it's the environment that determines how far you go. I don't know if I'm explaining it right but just eat right, work out and I believe you'll beat it.

I started getting my belly when I was about 20

yeah of course. but u need to do more than eat healthy. u need to exercise to because 1 it will help u stay slim, but also 2 it is good for your heart.
so
start jogging 20-30 minutes a few times a week.

Excersize is more effective than eating healthy when it comes to looking saucy :D

I'm kinda int same situation as you... 16 yr old skinny guy, fat dad, eats healthily, but i do sit ups and weights woo!

weh! weh!

Genes might make your body more likely to store fat when not exercising and not eating healthy. But if you maintain a healthy lifestyle and stay active you should have no problems.
