Stationary Bikes?!
Question: I know riding a proper bike is better excercise but do you think a stationary bike can burn a good amount of calories and tone up legs.
If I did about.....45-1hr a day for about a week
Would it have an effect

i ride a trainer in winter for an hour a day and lift weights three times a week. a stationary bike is fine, but remember a few basics. first get the seat up high enough. most novices run around with the seat way too low. at the bottom of the pedal stroke, your knees should be almost straight, but not completely locked. riding with it too low can damage your knees.
when you do ride, you shouldnt be pushing much on the pedals. you are looking to spin. that means turning your legs over very quickly. you are looking for 90+rpm. you can calculate that just by watching a clock. count how many times one of your legs goes around in a minute. you'll find them moving pretty quickly if you are riding correctly.
another thing i personally like is a heartrate monitor. i like to know if i am actually working or just riding nowhere. at first spinning will run your heartrate thru the roof, but as you become fit, it becomes harder and harder to work your heart. i find i need to do intervals to get my heartrate up.
