Does anyone know a healthy lunch that I can take to school but still taste good?!
Question: And I will not buy our school food. It sucks!
Answers: And I will not buy our school food. It sucks!
For my daughter's lunch I always start with fresh fruit. It's healthy, and there is lots of variety. I quarter oranges to make it easier to eat, or fill baggies with strawberries or grapes, use whatever is in season, or try something exotic. Next I include a dairy, either a cheese stick or a yogurt, and finally a sandwich. I vary the types of bread, but it's usually whole grain which has more fiber. Or whole wheat pitas with hummus. Sometimes instead of a sandwich I'll send leftovers from the night before in a heated container. But there are so many takes on sandwiches you don't have to go near turkey or jam. Also, you don't need a big sandwich, one slice of whole grain bread cut in half with whatever filling you choose, along with at least one cup of fruit and a low fat yogurt will tide you over until you get home.
cold mashed potatoes.
pre heated Lasagnia in a thermostat
sushi? its mostly rice and seaweed with a bit of meat and veggies. u dont have to buy the raw kinds if you dont like.
salad
look through food magazines and pick out pictures of what you like to give to your mum. I always had things like stirfry vegetables with soy sauce and garlic or chicken breast with avocado and lettuce in pita bread and so on.
PB & J
Sliced turkey/chicken sandwich on whole wheat bread, w/lettuce, tomato, & a little bit of mayo.
Fresh fruit & maybe some sugar free jello.
Tossed salad with veggies in it & maybe some chicken, ham, or turkey.
If you can't store your lunch in a refrigerated/cold place, I suggest taking slim fast/atkins/south beach diet bars with you and buy a beverage from the school cafeteria. Whenever I'm on the run and don't have time to make anything I just grab one of those bars and eat it later. However, if you do have access to a refrigerated place to put your lunch, why don't you make (for instance) a fruit salad with cottage cheese the night before, then bring it along?
I just thought of something else... if you can store your lunch in a freezer, why not bring along a lean cuisine/healthy choice dish? They have so many varieties, I'm sure you'd like a few of them.
