Could I lose 40 pounds by March?!

That's about 5 lbs/week. It's possible, but not likely.

Unless you want to count the the 5-6 lbs of water weight loss from some stupid detox formula (which some poster will undoubtedly suggest), you'll need to create a calorie deficit of about 2500 calories/day. You probably burn about 1700 calories/day now (depending on age/gender, current activity level). If you went on a very restrictive 1,000 calorie/day diet, you'd still need to burn another 1800 calories/day through exercise. This would be the equivalent of several hours of cardio EVERY day. It would be difficult, because you'd be tired all the time because you're not getting many calories from food....fat burns slower than carbs, so you'd probably not feel very good.

If you want to do it right, set your goal for the end of June and try to make some permanent lifestyle changes that will keep you at 150 once you get there.

It's possible, but not healthy. A pound or 2 a week is a good, reasonable goal. It took time to put the weight on, it takes time to get if off.

If your goal is March 1, you have about 7 weeks left. That means 10-15 lbs loss is reasonable. If it's March 31, that's about 12 weeks left, so 15-20 lbs is reasonable.

You have to realize that rapid weight lose is not healthy for you. And most of the time when you lose weight fast it will come back. You have to find a diet and exercise program that is right for you. Not everyone can start out with the same amount of physical exercise. You should see a Dr to make sure that there are no problems to prevent you from exercise. Then see a nutritionist to develop a diet proper for you. And then a fitness instructor to develop an exercise program that will fit your needs.
