Help me stop putting on weight since giving up smoking?!

Question: Hi I gave up smoking 7 months ago and handled it pretty well, I didn't use any aids or anything and didn't turn to food, However I have still managed to put on nearly a stone!!! this is really upseting me as I am not eating any more than I used to, I still fit into my size 8 clothes waist wise, but my top half is now a 10 as my breasts have gone from a 34A to a 34C and growing!! this is not too bad as I like the fact I have a large chest now, but I can't cope with the extra inches everywhere else I have had problems with eating disorders in the past and smoking has always helped me to keep that under control, (ie when I was stressed I binge smoked instead of binge ate) I am seriously thinking of starting smoking again as I can't handle being overweight and I am starting to feel it.

Any tips would be greatfully appreciated as I don't want to start again I feel much healthier just can't handle the extra weight.

I'm 28 by the way thanks x

ps I do regualar exercise.

You may want to look at what type of exercise you are doing. For burning calories it is best to do short durations (20 mins tops) of high intensity exercise; this keeps your metabolism bumped up for at least 24 hrs. You should leave at least 2 days between your high intensity cardio exercise, if you want you can fit in some long duration (40 mins tops) low intensity cardio during these 2 day gaps.

One of the best ways to burn calories is to build muscle. Muscle tissue burns calories even as you sleep; remember it is consuming more calories than you burn that causes weight gain; so you may want to take up some light weight lifting. It is to prevent muscle breakdown that you should not exercise for more than 40 mins for low intensity cardio and 20 mins for high.

Don't be tempted to go on any 'starvation' diets or anything of that nature, although you may lose weight all you will be losing will be muscle and water; exactly the opposite of what you want.

Good Luck

binge coffee drinking........or
binge exercise.....

There are nicotine quitting tablets which might balance any weight gain due to deprivation of nicotine

If you are a size 8-10 with a 34C, you have a very well proportioned body. Usually when you quit smoking you tend to gain a little weight. And if you have had problems with binge eating in the past, that is exactly what you are trying to avoid going back to.
To me it sounds like there is some other issue that is causing you to have a somewhat compulsive personality, which you should talk to your doctor about.
Plus, you talk about being a size 8-10 like it is a bad thing! And you are a 34C! You are not big by any means. You are probably below average size. Don't worry about looking like the skinny bitches on TV or on the magazine covers. In fact, I would say most men prefer a girl who is a more normal size. And in the end, what really matters is that you are healthy and you have a good opinion of yourself.
I hope this helps!

dite, eat less

Have you been eating more? I'm a smoker and wear size 8-10 (I don't smoke to stay slim, I started smoking when I was young) I'd hate to gain weight if I decided to quit because I'm only 5'4
