Well, yeah, teenagers have raging metabolisms because their bodies are still growing and changing, and while they don't need cheese on toast and cake and pudding, their bodies usually metabolize those things well because teen bodies are amazing at converting food into energy instead of fat. There are plenty of people who binge, and obesity is reaching epidemic proportions within the US, but we certainly don't need junk food. If you think teens are good at metabolizing junk, wait till you see what they can do with the real stuff. Sometimes teens go over 2000 calories, I know I did all the time, but I never had a whole lot of junk food in my diet, and still today at 21 I have trouble gaining weight. I'm 6'2" and like 175, and I think I'm still growing a little, though much slower than when I was a teen.

teens have a high metabolism compared with say 40 somethings...male athletes in their 20's require the highest calorie intake...

Well I looked on alot of teen healtness sites and most said
: teenagers require more calories than adults.
:)

Yes..there bodies are still going through lots of changes and being flooded with all kinds of hormones all of which takes extra energy. They also have a higher metabolism than adults and tend to be more active. Teens also require more sleep than adults. Adults need, on average, 8 hours of sleep to be healthy and function properly where teens can require up to 10.

Yes they do. It will eventually catch up with them though if they carry on that way into adulthood.

Teens generally have a higher metabolism then adults due to the amount of activity and also the growth of the body itself. The metablosim is controlled by genetics but in general will slow as we get older. The kids consuming a rich diet of cakes etc will find tht they mite not gain weight now but eventually it will catch up and if its not weight gain it will come in the form of bad colesterol or diabetes to the extreme so best to consume the calories required through healthy eating and plan for the future.

feel free to read some healthy snack recipes i have http://myfitmate.blogspot.com/ there absolutely yummy and no reason why you cant take them to school.

Teens need more sleep, more calcium, more vitamins and yes more carbs & calories as for the most part their motabilism is higher...if they are normal healthy & active.

No I don't believe the generation is ruled by binge disorder though that is a problem with far too many. Normal healthy active teenagers have a faster metabolism. As we age our metabolism tends to slow down thus the need for less calories. Also teens tend to lead more active lives than adults do. Both metabolism and activity are a factor for everyone in determining the calories needed. If anyone of any age consumes more calories than they burn through activity then they gain weight. The rate at which calories are burned depends upon ones metabolism and how active you are. Even though your metabolism slows as you age you can counteract it with the types of foods you eat and the amount of energy you expel. I know that was the long way around the barn but I hope it answers your question for now as well as for as you age.
