Do you think this person wants to lose weight?!

Question: she believes in eating better, eating healthier, not eating a lot of veggies, does the weight watchers Points system (which doesn't really emphasize fruits and veggies), she doesn't believe in exercise, she smokes, she's lost 30 pounds and although it's a lot, she acts like she's at her goal weight but still has about 70 lbs to lose.

does this person want to lose weight and can lose weight?

Everyone wants to loose weight, and if you're saying that she has 70 more lbs to go, then there is probably at least 40 lbs to be lost there.

The problem with unmotivated people of course is that they get easily satisfied. When she was 100 lbs overweight, she wasn't happy, so she lost a few pounds, was happy, lost a little more, was happy, lost a little more, and was still happy. Now that the loosing becomes tougher to achieve - why bother, she is happy.

That's where you come in, and anyone else around her. If you think she should loose weight (and at 70 lbs over it sounds like she should), do something for her that will make loosing the next few lbs easy and fun. Whatever relationship you have with her, you should know what she likes - use that as a starting point to find an activity that will help her get motivated again. If she's into books - find a book that will talk about a fat person becoming happy through weight loss, stuff like that. If she is unmotivated, you cannot build a support system around her - but you can nudge her along with these little encouragements.

Good luck!

i guess its working!

why do you talk about yourself in the third person??

She can lose weight as long as she burns more calories than she takes in.

I think she can.... and what does it matter if she smokes?

umm good question... I have never meet anyone that doesn't want to lose weight so she most likely wants to loose weight... and it's not a very good way to lose it.

yeah it doesnt sound like they are REALLY trying. eating better is a start but if you really want to do it then you have to exercise. i'm being such a hypocrite right now too, because last january i was up to 145, i lost 20lbs by may, just be eating better. its not that i dont "believe" in exercise, i'm just too lazy to do it. and now i can lose the last 10lbs to save my life. i know i need to do it. unfortionitly, i dont like most veggies either, so its hard to stay on a better diet without them...

I think if she has lost 30lbs so far she can loose weight. but if shes quiting before she gets to her goal than no she don't want to loose it bad enough to keep trying!

Sounds like it's working but she's not doing it the right way if she's smoking and not eating any veg. Ahe'll put it all back on when she starts eating normally..

WW's does emphasize the healthy way of eating. They tell daily to limit your sugars and alcohol, get your fruits/veggies, drink your water, get your dairy, get your oils & exercise.
She isn't following the program properly if she isn't going by these recommendations of WW's.

i think that person has a goal to lose some weight but i think shes not that trying hard since she doesnt believe in exercise...

Well she could try harder..4/sure!! STOP smoking..first of all..thats a start!! Wow 30 thats awesome ..I'd say don't stop now... she's on a roll !! 70 more to go piece of cake=) You can do anything you set your heart to...so just help her along be supportive and be a good friend and I think she can do it !!

Why do you care?

She probably does want to lose weight. She just wants an easier softer way. Also, not eating fruits and vegetables isn't a proper way to diet.
