I've heard several answers.

Black coffee is zero (0) points on the Weight Watchers plan. Yay!
It is a stimulant and revs up the pancreas, so enough of it can contribute to blood sugar roller coaster and cravings.
The Blood Type diet says coffee is Highly Beneficial for some types (my blood type is A, so it's good for me).

I suspect it's much like many other things - provided it isn't outrightly bad for you, some in moderation is just fine.

People have told me that black coffee is usually bad for health

the only benefit in coffee when dieting is the increased energy you get form caffeine. alot of people working out have a strong back coffee 20mins prior for an energy kick. the downside is that too much caffeine is actually a depressive so be wary. in moderation is fine

coffee is a diaretic which means you will retain water.. so as you want to shed wate weight stop drinking caffeine.. ie coffee,tea, and soda pop..
