Are instant oats not as good as "long-grain"?!

Question: Are instant oats or rice not as good as the long-grains, as far as the nutritional values go. Someone at the Gym was telling me about it. What do you guys think?

As to oats, it depends on what kind of instant you mean. If you mean the flavored instant oats, then those aren't as good for you as the less-processed version of oats. However, if the oats are unflavored, they're just as good, though they have a gram or two less fiber. Rolled (instant) oats have gone through just a little more processing to make them easier to cook and to give them a better texture.

With rice, unprocessed is best. Processing strips the B vitamins and the fiber-rich bran layer from the rice.
