High cholesterol comes from both our family and our food. It's more important what you eat than how much you eat - and exercise is a great help in lowering your cholesterol level. I was advised that exercise is one of the best things a person can do to lower cholesterol and to keep the body fit and healthy in more ways than you can imagine.
Limit your intake of meats, fats and dairy products, drink lots of water, avoid starchy foods and consume lots of fruits and veggies - especially the veggies because too many fruits can also raise your levels.
Talk with a good doctor and/or nutritionist.
I wish you the best!

P.S. You are very wise to take your health seriously at such a young age. Hooray for you, my dear!!!!!!!!!!!

some people just have high colesterol concentrations naturally, and as long as you havent been stuffing down big macs you'r probably fine.

i would suggest go see a doctor.
Genetic can have an important role too.

It depends on the foods you eat & not too much on weight. Alot of fried food will make your cholesterol go up. Try eating more fruit & veggies. Real oatmeal is good for you, too. Good luck!~~~

EVERYONE has cholosterol regardless of age. Genetics plays a big part in how high it is and cardiac health.

STAY the heck out of Micky D's, B-K and the other fast food grease joints.

It could be good old genetics. But be concious of what you eat, there maybe cholesterol in things you may consider healthy like nuts.

If you eat greasy, fatty foods that are high in cholesterol then it could be the cause. Also, just because you think you are healthy doesn't mean you really are. Some people have a natural occurrence with high cholesterol.

Cholesterol is definitely hereditary. Some people in your family may not be showing high cholesterol right now, but there still might be a history somewhere along the line. I would say keep your metabolism high and stay active, and everything should be all right.

it could be genetic. do you have an eating disorder? cause if you do sometimes they have fake high readings with cholesterol. i dont know why they just do. try eating oatmeal every morning i have known people that have done that and it has lowered theirs. is your dr concernend? if he/she isnt i wouldnt be either. talk to him/her.

could be what your eating
or inherited

Could it be what you eat not how much you eat? DOes your parents have high cholesterol ? you could have inherited it and just not have a tolerence for fatty foods.

Just dont eat so much like fatty foods like bacon, fatback,
use canola oil in your foods,
drink lots of apple cider vinegar, flushes system
drink grapefruit juices.
U will be okay......just eat more fruits and less greasy foods.

Genetics - some people no matter how thin and how healthy will end with high cholesterol.
Speak to your doctor about foods that help lower cholesterol as the tablets used long term can have a bad effect on the liver.

one type comes from family- another is fatty foods.

Cholesterol is produced by the body. It's a genetic thing. Cholesterol is the main ingredient for your cell walls. Some people produce more than other people. Try eating oatmeal to bring your levels down.

First of all, everyone "has" cholesterol. It's whether your bad cholesterol is high or low. And it can be high from one of two way... your eating habits (fast food, sugars, refined crap, etc) or heredity. If it is heredity, you need to be under the care of a physician because there is nothing that you yourself can do to lower it.

Hope this helps.

do you eat alot of fast food? I had very high cholestrol when I was a teen and found that eatting out alot may of done it. I began gagging down oatmeal every morning and quit eating so much fast food and it lowered itself fairly quickly. Good luck. Be sure to take care of it.

Either hereditary or bad eating habits

it's probably hereditary. myself and my three daughters have high cholesterol. years ago, when i weighed in at 100 pounds, my cholesterol was 417! now i weigh 30 pounds more and i quit smoking and gave up trans fat, i've got it down to 282. my doctor suggested milk thistle and fish oil to help lower it. skip the fast foods, sugars. keep up with the running and make sure you get regular check ups. good luck.

First of all were you fasting when they did this test? If you had anything in the 12 hours prior it would be elevated. It really has nothing to do wiht the amount that you eat, but it is what you are eating, stay away from foods that are fried or contain animal fat. Also a good supplement like garlic and eating food high in fiber like oatmeal can help. Oh and finally, high cholesterol can be genetic. Ask your mom or dad if they have high cholesterol.

Your cholesterol is also hereditary. I exercise and eat right but mine still runs a bit on the high side so I still have to take meds for it. It runs in my family so there is no escaping it. That is probably what is going on with you.

Some people have high cholesterol, some don't. It's a genetic thing which your doctor can explain to you if necessary. The question you need to ask yourself is this your HDL or LDL?

The LDL is the bad stuff, the HDL is the good stuff but they're both cholesterol. If you did a lot of exercise you'd have a high amount of HDL which can protect against heart disease.

So unless you've been chewing on animal fat for the past few months, I would suspect it's your HDL reading that's pushing the envelope.

are you fat? sooo RBP

Ask you doctor about using Fish Oil supplements!

USA has been duped into believing that cholesterol levels over 175 are dangerous. The pharmaceutical companies are loving this! If most people have cholesterol around 200-225, that is normal. Doctors prescribe synthetic drugs and keep the drug companies rich at the expense of our health. On the other hand, if you are still concerned and want to get your cholesterol level down, abstain from sugars and starches.

maybe your body doesn't break down fats properly. Drink a glass of red wine or have one bear a night and eat lots of garlic. Get tested for lack of whatever breaks down cholesterol in your body. And consult a physician for further thoughts maybe a nutrtionist.

I had this problem in high school. I was not overweight either and mine was in the 190's. I stopped eating fried foods and started eating oatmeal. It went down.
