Fish oils are great, but if you really want a natural oil which will help lower cholesterol, take flax seed oil instead. Trust me. I worked for 12 years at GNC and the one supplement that customers constantly praised for naturally lowering their cholesterol levels was flax seed oil. Good luck.

No. Fats will not help. Exercise and loose weight if you need to.

Yes its fine to take it if you want to

Of course.

Fish oils are supposed to help. My doctor wants me to take them, but I gag just at the thought of anything fishy whether you can taste it or not.

My dr. has prescribed Omega 3 vitamins for me for high cholesterol and high tryglycerides,( that is fish oil ) Sorry about the spelling, lol! You can buy Omega 3's over the counter but you would have to take about 10 a day to get the benefits of a pharmacutical grade of Omega 3 and you only have to take four of those. I would consult your dr. about it though before you do anything different that what he has advised. There is medication available for high cholesterol but it does have some side effects. like muscle spasms and cramping that can be severe. I;m sure you already know about a diet that is high in fruits and veggies and low in fat and carbs. Excercise also helps a lot. I also wanted to add that it does not taste like fish or make you smell like fish but it is very expensive if you don't have insurance to help.

I agree with the other poster regarding the flax seed. I take that daily, to lower cholesterol, along with a high level of fiber in my diet. Red Yeast Rice tablets (an OTC herbal product) also may work for you. Read up on it first, however. Exercise also lowers cholesterol.

My doctor prescribed Omega 3's to me and it has been a big help at keeping my cholesterol down.
