Salads are actually very good for you IF you take it easy on the toppings. Get rid of the crutons and the bacon bits and the ham and cheese and egg! Load up on the veggies ... bell peppers, tomatoes, celery, carrots and so on. You also need to be careful with the dressing. The less you use the better. You can get really creative with the salads also so you don't get bored.

You can have an oriental salad with lettuce (I love using the spring mix salad because it is so pretty), mandarian oranges, grilled chicken, celery and a low fat sesame dressing (Kraft makes one).

You want to mix it up for sure ... keep it interesting or else you will falter. What I recommend is that you have a good breakfast, like oatmeal with fruit, a yogurt with a banana something like that. A salad for lunch and for dinner a piece of grilled chicken or fish with a salad and lots of veggies!! Also when trying to lose weight it is actually better to eat six small meals instead of three regular ones. It prevents you from over eating and it also keeps you full throughout the day. You can get like special K bars to eat as snacks or something!

Good luck!

some nonfat yogurt with fresh fruit
shredded wheat with non fat or low fat milk
pnut butter toast
oatmeal

yes, salads are a great way to lose some weight, but load up on veggies and lean chicken breast in the salads and use little dressing. Use lowfat or nonfat options. Good luck
dont forget to drink your water!!

Nearly all food that comes off the land directly is good for you. You should eat something like weet bix for brekky?
If you do a little bit of excercise every day, you will eventually make a difference

you ahve to be careful whats on the salad. there are high calorie and high fat topings that can go on the salad.
some things for breakfast:
oatmeal with fruit and nonfat milk
egg white and toast and nonfat milk
kashi go lean cereal with nonfat milk and berries
a smoothie and toast
boost/ensure

Breakfast - Cereal + Fruit + Low Fat Milk
Lunch - Steamed White Chicken Breast + Bread + Salad
Dinner (Before 7.30, no snacks) - White rice + Steamed Fish + Cooked Veggies.

All in small amounts enough to make you 70% full.
And you'll get sick after eating alot of salads. You'll tend to add more dressing than the salad leaves itself.

without exercise you may lose weight... but you wont have any toning or definition... so you may get thin but technically youll still be fat b/c of body fat %. even walking throughout the day helps.

the salad dressings and toppings (especially croutons and bacon) are very fattening.
a high fiber, high protein breakfast is good... try a bowl of whole grain cereal and a couple scrambled or hard boiled eggs.
the best things to have on your salads is vinegarettes (balsamic is my favorite) and sliced grilled chicken or hard boiled eggs. slice up lots of fresh veggies like cucumbers and tomatoes...tuna is always good too!

make sure to choose a good lettuce (iceburg has NO nutritional value... choose romaine or spinach)...

for snacks choose fresh fruits and veggies

The veggies are good for you but most dressings are high fat and high calorie. Cabbage provides more fiber than lettuce. Hot cereals (with artificial sweetener used) are good breakfast ideas; any whole grain breads (never white) but be sure to check calorie counts; fruit and cottage cheese (fat free) would work. Avoid fruit juices (have whole fruit instead).

The only diet I've ever found that works for me (without exercise) is Atkins. I already take meds for cholesterol so I've got that covered.

If you can work walking into your regular routine, without setting aside time for a walk, do so; you'll benefit from it. Even parking away from the store entrance, using stairs instead of the elevator - those types of things.

Good luck!
