LA Fitness: bad service- anyone else experience this?!

Question: So we recently signed up for LA Fitness and scheduled for our fitness evaluation with a personal trainer.

Long story short, the trainer tells us our body fat % (mine is 18% and my husbands is 13%) and then begins to talk to us about our fitness goals. We both want to be in shape, but aren't worried about bulking up or losing too much weight.

The personal trainer suggested that I go for 9% body fat and that my husband go for 5% body fat. I thought this sounded a bit off, but I didn't know for sure so I just said...ok.

When I researched it, of course it was WAY off. Women's body fat should not be under 15%, men's around 10%. It is unhealthy to go any lower! Women should never go under 12% body fat at all and even body builders have probs with 5%...

Anyone else get some stupid unhealthy review? Beware of the sales pitch they toss at you after they give you this unreasonable goal!!!

I totally agree with you. That was completely irresponsible of the trainer to suggest that.

As far as I know essential body fat for men is 3%-5% and for women it is 10%-12%, so your tainer has suggested a very low goal for your husband and a dangerously low goal for yourself. If I were you, I wouldn't go below 15% body fat and your husband probably shouldn't go below 7% body fat.

The percentages are completely wrong and very dangerous. LA Fitness has recently regrouped and is starting to close down some of its locations, so buyer beware.
