How much exercise to lose weight depends alot on what is your weight, fitness level and age. I listed down below the experience I had for losing 20 pounds in 2 months but see if you want to improvised.

First week:
breakfast => having whole meal bread
lunch => salad and boiled meat
dinner => vegetable soup or any light meal including salad.
Small snacks in between if you like. No need to really exercise, just get used to the diet plan. The idea is to eat light but have a number of small meals. You need not stick to healthy food every night. Just select 2 days to eat whatever you feel like having.

Second week:
All the diet stays the same but it is time to start exercising.
It will be simple. Just start skipping 1000 times or jog at least 3km for 3 days a week. Always do your warm-up and warm down exercises. This is just to bring your body to getting used to more exercises.

For morning, exercise with an empty stomach and then consume breakfast. If at night, exercise then only consume your dinner.

Third week:
All diet remain the same. But you will be alternating between your exercises. Incorporate weight trainings.
Remember that if you want to lose inches, it will be to train the large muscle groups, like your legs and back and chest.
And not just training your stomach muscles which is just a small muscle group. Make sure you really break a sweat from training.

Usually I will do weights training for 2 nights, and 3rd night, go for a 3km jog, 4th night rest, 5th night light weights training,
6th night I will run for 6km. And sunday rest.

Fourth week onwards, everything will continue from there. After the fourth week, its all about MOTIVATION.
You can just jog the whole week, just do weights training the whole week, anything will work as long as you keep exercising.

And actually I feel 70% of the result in losing weight is not really through the exercises but maintaining your diet.
You can give yourself 2 days a week to eat anything you want as long as you keep yourself active.

Summary: If you want to skip everything above, personally I believe if you can skip 1000 times each time, you can lose weight real fast. But always maintain your food to just 3/4 filling.

Hope the above on how much exercise to lose weight will help you. Best of luck!

Sorry, there is no way to lose 20 lbs a month, healthily that is. You should do cardio at least 3 times a week, that means at least 45 mins each session such as running, jogging, speed walking, or any cardio machine. Also, strength training allows you to lose more weight by gaining muscle, and muscle burns more calories. Just do light weights such as dumbell lifts and push ups, for beginners. If you do this, you'll lose 1 lb a week at least. Don't forget to eat healthy, try cutting down on the fat and calories, and stage your meals so that you eat 4-5 mini meals instead of one ore two big ones. breakfast will make you lose weight too, lay off the cereal and try a grapefruit or any kind of fruit and skim/ no fat milk. good luck!

PS if u exercise too much, your body becomes adaptive and you will lose energy. for me, i run every morning outside and lift weights every two days. i'm losing weight and making my muscles tighter and leaner. there is NO fast way to losing weight. the only thing is drugs such as hydroxycut, but otherwise eat well, and jog and strength train.

I do pilates, they really get your muscles working to burn off the fat. I try to excercise everyday even if its only 10 minutes, but start off slow otherwise you wont be able to move after a few days hehe.

Im trying to loose weight and these really help the 'problem areas', like arms, thighs, tummy, bum, back and breasts. See if you can pick up a pilates ball and look on the net for pilates tummy excercises.

Good luck

Its not impossible to lose 20 Ibs in a month, providing you weigh close to 300 pounds to start with. Weight loss potential is best measured through body fat percentage not scale weight. My clients would be dissapointed that they weren't losing scale weight at first, however their clothes fit better and they experienced greater energy and quality of life. Consult a professional to get you started. Most gyms have introductory training packages on the cheap. If you can afford a regular trainer, more power to you. A great trainer is priceless. Unfortunately, a lot of them are used car salesmen. Don't get upsold. Learn what you need to for direction and motivation, politely decline the re-sign and become a student of fitness. There are no "best" exercises. The body will adapt, become efficient and burn less calories if you repeat the same exercises. Progress your workouts and hit up cardio, core, resistance, balance, and intensity training. Again, a trainer can help you with this. Ask if he is NASM certified. If he doesn't know what that is, find one who does.
