Fish Oils?!

Question: Hi everyone! I read that people who don't eat fish should take a supplement, like fish oil. I bought some fish oil caplets, and it says I have to take 3 a day! That seems like a lot. I was just wondering if it's really worth the money to buy these things, and if I need to take 3 a day. Thanks!

buy the smallest bottle you can find and see if it sits well in your stomach. I know a couple of people that had hellatious burping that tasted like fish from it! Ack!

You may try eating flaxseed instead... still has omega-3's, no fish taste, high in fiber.

no, eat some fish

Fish oil has helped me a lot with depression. My body just runs better.

Different fish oil has different taste -- if you get a brand that tastes bad try another brand. Flax seed has not been shown to have the same benefits as fish oil, because it has a different type of omega -- ALA -- which must be converted in the body to be of use.

It is best to take fish oil with a meal to help it be used correctly by the body. If you have vitamin E, that's supposed to help it's absorption as well. Fish oil is absolutely worth the money -- it's the one supplement I wont go without.

I personally choose to take fish oil instead of eating lots of fish because fish have toxins like mercury and PCB in them. Whether or not the amount is negligible is not for certain, so I'd rather just take the pills. But I'd say eating fish is better than not getting omega 3 at all!

I would say just eat some fish. It's good for you.

However many you choose to take is up to you.
**They are best taken at night and frozen.**
This way you wont burp them up (which is mighty nasty).

if you take the fish oil with food, you don't get the nasty burps so much. Also, if you take a flax seed/fish oil mix pill, not so nasty burps either but if you eat some nice tuna about 3-4 times a week, is better. Also, walnuts are a good source of omega 3 too.

Fish oil supplements are fine. The recommended dosage of Omega-3 fatty acid is three grams daily. Of course, it is better to eat the fish because of the other nutrients they offer, particularly protein. But, if you just don't like fish, supplementation is OK.

yes, because in our daily diet, a lot of nutriants are missing. if you are eating fish often like 3 times a week, you don't need take the supplement. by the way the fish oil is good for your skin and brain, and it also release strees, it contains good fat and omega 3.

My grandparents have this product called "Coromega." It's a way to take Omega 3. If I remember correctly it tastes like oranges. It comes in little things like ketchup packets and you just eat one a day.

My mother is feeding us, we wre about six years, in India.

fish oil is rich in omega 3's theese are highly benifical to your body ...theyget rid of all the inflamation on your body...they also help with brain function

Krill oil is a great source of Omega 3. I take it from May - Sept (while it is sunny and I am getting Vitamin D from the sun) and Cod Liver Oil during the other months for the extra Vitamin D.

Good luck!

fish oil is good... good for the skin and the brain

Hi! I don't eat fish either. I guess I just don't have the palate for it. It is true that those of us who are aren't fans of seafood should be getting their Omega-3s from somewhere else. One option is taking a fish oil supplement, but honestly, for me, the thought of that is almost enough to effect my gag reflex and bring those caplets back up! And, as you said, taking 3 a day of those capsules could end up being very pricey! Luckily for us partial to land-based diets, Barilla makes a pasta that is rich in Omega-3s!

Barilla Plus is high in protein & fiber, low in fat, and one serving provides 28% of the daily recommended value of Omega-3s. Plus, it tastes exactly the same as any other pasta! So on those days when 3 caplets seem like too many, just have some pasta! I'm sure you could also find generic store brands with Omega-3s, as well! Don't sweat it, there ARE other ways of getting these nutrients.

Good luck!

The list of benefits associated with taking fish oil are incredible. It helps with lowering cholesterole, acts as a mood stabilizer, and helps with weight loss just to name a few.

I would suggest getting your fish oil at a store that specializes in selling suppliments. Their product are usually better and more concentrated. I get a triple strength fish oil caplet that I only have to take once a day. The cost runs about $18.99 for 60 pills. The single strength and double strength caplets are less. Give it a try. The investment is well worth it!
